Bar Mitzvah: Samuel Hochler
December 4
Samuel William (Shmuel Meir), the son of Julie and Kory Hochler, will be called to the Torah as a Bar Mitzvah during the morning service on Saturday, December 4. Sam is a 7th grader at Oxford Middle School where he participates in band, jazz band and is a member of the cross country team. Outside of school Sam swims competitively with the KC Blazers. He is active in Scouts as a member of Troop 61. He also plays basketball in the fall. Sam enjoys biking, hiking, and camping. For his Mitzvah Project Sam volunteered with Veteran Community Project-KC.

Klein Collection in the News
The Michael Klein Collection is helping Kansas City celebrate Hanukah at Union Station! The exhibit is on display through February 2022. We could say so much more here, but we think Klein Collection Educator/Curator Abby Magariel and collector Michael Klein tell a much better story in their KCTV5 News feature!

180 Menorahs
December 3 | 6:00 pm | B'nai Jehudah or virtual
Wear your wackiest Hanukah sweater, bring your menorahs from home, and help us light up the night! We'll supply the candles! Get ready for the fun with:

  • Wacky Hanukah sweater contest
  • Sisterhood's Candle Guessing Contest
  • Brotherhood's Creative Menorah contest (bring your homemade menorah to enter!)
  • And an official menorah count after the lighting ceremony!

After the service, we'll spread out around the building and outdoors to enjoy free donuts and hot chocolate on hand, PLUS latkes for those who pre-purchased them from Sisterhood (we will not have extras on hand for sale that evening).

Registration: Registration is required so we have enough seats, space and food available.

Havdalah and Hanukah at the Arboretum SOLD OUT

Celebrate Hanukah outdoors at the Arboretum's Luminary Walk

  • 5:00 pm: Meet at the Arboretum’s Pavilion for a brief Havdalah service and menorah lighting.
  • 5:30 pm: We will enter as a group to walk through the luminaries and enjoy the lights and songs!

Hanukkah Homecoming
December 5 | during Yalla! | B'nai Jehudah
All B'nai Jehudah members are invited to join Brotherhood for a special morning Hanukkah celebration! We will enjoy a Hanukkah-themed Brotherhood Breakfast Cafe menu, some great activities, including community service, and more. No registration required, simply join us for the fun!

Hanukkah Hop

Sisterhood invites young families for a fun, family friendly, virtual Hanukkah Hop! We’ll read Hanukkah Hop, let families show off their favorite Menorah, light the candles and say the blessing together, have a Hanukkah scavenger hunt and, of course… DANCE to some awesome Hanukkah songs!

Brotherhood Bourbon Tasting
January 13 | 7:00 pm | B'nai Jehudah
B'nai Jehudah Brotherhood is hosting a bourbon tasting event on January 13, 2022. We will have some fun with a blind bourbon tasting, snacks and a raffle for some bourbon. We're no pros, but we enjoy drinking bourbon! If this describes you (or even if you happen to not like bourbon, but want some community) then we look forward to seeing you there!
RSVP below; a $20/person donation to B'nai Jehudah Brotherhood is suggested. Donations may be made via check or Venmo @Gary-ROGOFF-1.
Give the Gift of Israel
Invest in your child's or grandchild's heritage by creating a Passport to Israel fund! This is a savings incentive program designed to help families save for their child's high school or college trip to Israel. For an annual $200/year (minimum) contribution to your 3rd-8th graders' fund, you will receive $100 in matching funds from the Flo Harris Supporting Foundation. Read the Rules of Participation for more information.

Send in your check ($200 minimum) to the B'nai Jehudah office by Dec. 10 with a:
Write Passport to Israel on the envelope, and make checks payable to The Temple, Congregation B'nai Jehudah.

Attention families with young children! Join in a virtual festival of lights with your family and our community at this year's virtual Hanukkah Glow Party! Optional $3 treat bags are available for purchase (with glow sticks and kosher Hanukkah treats). Pick up will be on December 1; for your convenience, you can choose your pick up location.
