Community Passover Seder

Apr. 7 | 6:00 pm | B’nai Jehudah 


Celebrate Shabbat - and the 3rd night of Passover - with a lively, intergenerational community-wide Passover seder! This all-ages, interactive Passover seder is open to the community and will be fast-paced and fun. The service leading up to the meal will last approximately one hour, and there will be fun prizes for ALL of the afikomen hunters after the meal. The cost includes a delicious catered meal: $36 adults/$18 for children 5-12/under 5 free.

Holiday Closing

B'nai Jehudah's office will be closed Thursday, April 6 and Wednesday, April 12 in observance of Passover. If you have a rabbinic emergency while our office is closed, please dial 913.663.4050 and follow the prompts to connect with our clergy.

Torah Study also on Passover Break!

To give us time to prepare for and observe Passover, Torah Study Group is canceled on April 5 and April 12.

Welcome Laura Payne!

We are excited to announce that Laura Payne will serve as our Interim Music Director. She is a familiar face, since we have been blessed to have experienced Laura’s musical talents for the last 10 years in various part time capacities within our congregation. Over the last few years Laura has stepped in each and every time B’nai Jehudah has needed musical coverage. her leadership will help shape the sound on the B’nai Jehudah bima during this transitional time.


Laura graduated from the University of Kansas with a fine arts degree in Opera and Musical Theatre and has been singing professionally for over 25 years. She enjoys creating meaningful and connected experiences for all. Laura began teaching early childhood music right here at B’nai Jehudah 10 years ago, which expanded to leading early childhood music for much of the Kansas City Jewish community. She has also spent many years as the music specialist for B’nai Jehudah Religious School and Machane Jehudah summer camp. Additionally, Laura has enjoyed singing for Shabbat services, High Holy Day services, and other holiday and life cycle events. Laura is excited to help grow the musical experience at B’nai Jehudah and support our amazing Jewish community.

Scholar in Residence Weekend

Mark your calendars for a special weekend, featuring Scholar in Residence, Rabbi Ken Kanter! Rabbi Kanter is an internationally known scholar of the Jewish contribution to American popular music. Our weekend begins with a Classical Reform Erev Shabbat Service on April 28. On April 29 we'll enjoy a Broadway Sing-Along Havdalah, featuring the contributions of American Jews to many of our favorite Broadway musicals.

In Jewish tradition, songbirds are a symbol of love and fertility. This beautiful engagement ring was made for a bride to wear at her wedding, replaced after for a simple band whose unbroken circle serves as a symbol of never-ending love and commitment. It was made in Iraq.

Happy Bottoms March Madness!

There is STILL TIME to donate diapers at B'nai Jehudah!!! Drop them off in the lobby-area donation bins and Sisterhood will deliver them to Happy Bottoms. Donations accepted through mid-April.


Rose Brooks Donations

This Passover, B'nai Jehudah Sisterhood is collecting items to deliver to Rose Brooks, a domestic violence emergency shelter in Kansas City. Bring your donations to the Community-wide Passover seder, and they will be delivered to Rose Brooks. Click here for a list of donation items.


Keeping People Warm

Create adult items for Care Beyond the Boulevard (CBB). We are seeking adult sized (medium or larger) handmade hats, gloves, scarves, blankets, shawls. A collection box will be in the Mitzvah Room.

Confirmation NYC Trip a Hit!

Scenes from another amazing Confirmation trip to NYC! Along with Rabbi and Adam Kramer and Rabbi Brazner, our teens did it all! Delicious NY food, Erev Shabbat at Central Synagogue, a Broadway show, a tour of Jewish Harlem and the Tenement Museum and a 102-story view from the Empire State Building were just a few adventures experienced by the Confirmation Class of 2023!!!

Kansas Commemorates the Holocaust

April 18 | 1:00 pm | Topeka Downtown Ramada Inn, 420 SE Sixth Street, Topeka, KS

Kansas commemorates the Holocaust in the singular government sponsored memorial for the victims and survivors. Gov. Laura Kelly will present the Kansas Proclamation for the Days of Remembrance, Harold Youngentob, son of survivors, will speak about his family’s return to their European homeland, Brest-Litvosk, Poland in remembrance of the Holocaust. They were only saved from a similar fate because their uncle, who was living in Topeka, Kansas, obtained visas for them. This important commemoration is free and open to the public. Registration is requested at mchekc.org/Kansas-holocaust-commemoration/. The ceremony will be livestreamed on the MCHE Kansas City YouTube Channel and available after the event.
