Welcome to BAB's Trade & Investment Update for February 2020.

February saw BAB publish an exciting new guide produced in partnership with Fragomen aimed at companies doing business in the UK. The guide sets out the key considerations businesses should be making with regards to their workers, and how Brexit may affect their operations.

Our New York team held another fantastic event in the Start Up, Scale Up, Sale series, which brings together business leaders and founders to share experiences and insights into starting up and growing a business. BAB's CEO Duncan Edwards also attended a great networking event with our friends at BABC Texas and her Majesty's Consul-General in Texas, Richard Hyde.

We're also delighted to highlight two fantastic events coming up that BAB is proudly supporting. The Festival of Enterprise, and the Margaret Thatcher Conference on Trade. More details (including how to claim discounted tickets if you're a member of BAB) below.

Last but not least, we're extremely excited to be back in March for our annual Transatlantic Growth Awards, held for the third year running in London. We're bringing together the most exciting, innovative and fast-growth companies across the transatlantic corridor to celebrate their success. Attendance is free and open to all who share our passion for celebrating transatlantic success. We look forward to seeing you there!

BAB and Fragomen Publish Brexit Immigration Guide for International Companies in the UK

In proud partnership, Fragomen and BritishAmerican Business have produced a Brexit immigration guide for international businesses with operations in the UK, setting out the key considerations companies need to be making during the transition period and beyond in regards to their workers, and how their ability to work in the UK could be affected by Brexit.

The guide also provides a helpful summary of the UK Government’s proposed new immigration system, and how your business should be preparing for these proposed changes, as well as a timeline throughout the year and into 2021 to help you plan for what comes next.

The guide covers:
  • What the current deal between the UK and EU means.
  • The settled status process - are your workers eligible to apply and how they can do so.
  • The timeline - what is likely to happen and when, and how you can be prepared.
  • Key messages you should be delivering to your business.
  • The UK Government’s latest immigration plans, to come into effect on 1 January 2021.
  • The differences in your approach regarding Irish citizens in the UK and UK citizens in Ireland.

At this time, we will proceed with our programme of events and meetings as planned unless official government and health officials advise otherwise.

We are following recommended health guidelines. We advise all of our guests to follow the professional advice from UK health experts and self-isolate if they are experiencing cold, cough, fever and flu-like symptoms; if they have been in touch with someone with confirmed coronavirus or if they have recently travelled to an area with high risk of coronavirus. For more information, visit www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/ .

For guests attending our events, we will supply sanitizers and access to washing facilities, and we encourage thorough hand washing and other hygienic practices. We recommend refraining from physical contact during greetings.
