Letter from the President
Stephen Wares CGMA
VP Business Development, CCW Business Solutions

Dear Friends of the BABC,

It is with great pleasure to introduce myself as the newly appointed President of the BABC Northern California chapter.

As some of you may know Melissa Harkcom is expecting a child and we wish her and her family all the very best. I am delighted to report that Melissa is staying involved with the organization as an active member of the BABC and would like to thank her on behalf of the BABC Network for the sterling impact she has made this last year. I am also delighted to announce that I will be working in tandem with Maya Mancuso who now performs a new role of Vice President.

I am so honored to have been appointed as President of the BABC Northern California chapter and look forward to reporting back to you all on a monthly basis.

Without further ado I'm thrilled to reflect on what has been a busy summer month for the BABC.

We started the month's events with a musical undertone for our July Young Professionals Happy Hour at Werqwise accompanied by Keeva Acapella Group.
It was our highest turnout of the year so far and was an excellent opportunity for all involved to not only network but enjoy a unique twist to the BABC Happy Hour setup.

The well anticipated 2nd instalment of the Commonwealth Networking Series 2 proved to be just as successful as the launch of this new initiative. 80 guests from the communities of   Australian American Chamber of Commerce British American Business Council British Columbia // Canada International Trade and Investment Office , Consulate General of Canada in San Francisco  and the  New Zealand American Association of San Francisco

It was a trip south to Palo Alto for the BABC team to co-host the Young Professionals Summer European Mixer on the outdoor patio of WilmerHale's offices that concluded July's events calendar. Young Professionals from the British American Business Council Northern California,  French American Chamber of Commerce San Francisco , and  German American Business Association mingled and exchanged Bay area life experiences making this another successful European event.

It may be Summer but the BABC event calendar is still looking lively having recently launched a couple of new events and with plenty in the works!

Building on last month's well attended European Mixer, British American Business Council Northern California,  French American Chamber of Commerce San Francisco , and  German American Business Association invite you to join our even larger collaboration event,  'Summer European Networking', an event that will bring together a further 12 international networking chambers. Come and enjoy some drinks and nibbles in the company of professionals from different countries, businesses and industries overlooking the bay from the offices of DocuSign.

We will be returning to DocuSign having launched the Penfolds Wine Masterclass in September. A great opportunity to entertain clients over a virtual visit of Australia. Later in the year we have our Real Estate event; The Changing Face of the World We Work In with panellists still to be announced. So keep an eye out for those additions. Last but not least, Friday 13th December, save the date, because we have already begun planning for this year's 56th Annual Christmas Lunch!

Finally yet importantly, as you will see from our new and renewing member sections further down in this newsletter, the BABC community remains as strong and vibrant as ever. I hope you will join me in welcoming the newest members of our growing and dynamic community - you will find information about them below. Please take a moment to visit their websites and contact Jo Healey if you would like to learn more.

I am so honored to have been appointed as President of the BABC Northern California chapter, and I look forward to serving you

From The Consul General's Desk

Dear friends and members of the BABC,

At the end of last month, Boris Johnson became our new Prime Minister and he quickly set out his initial priorities much of which are domestic focused, and of course his course of action for Brexit. As more details from the Government and its priorities become known, I will do my best to share them with you.

For this column, though, I want to talk about an exciting group we have learned is coming to the Bay Area this fall: the RAF Red Arrows.

As one of the world's premier display teams, with a reputation for exhilarating and spectacular displays of precision formation flying, we are excited they are making their first visit to the US in more than 10 years and specifically making a stop in San Francisco as part of their North America Tour.

The tour aims to promote the best of British and deepen partnerships with close friends and allies. And provides chance to celebrate and enhance international trade and investment between the UK, Canada and the US, worth nearly $260 billion in 2018.

Their 11 week deployment - which includes stops in 25 cities across North America - is an indication of the UK's continuing commitment to enduring relationships, mutual prosperity and extensive security cooperation.

They'll be in the Bay Area, 1 October and you can catch them doing a flypast of the iconic Golden Gate around 11:30a that day (I expect to be posting updates to Twitter as we get closer, be sure to follow me @UKAWhittaker). I plan to be out at Crissy Field to watch the display - I hope you'll join me. If you want to learn about the rest of the tours, please visit their website: https://www.raf.mod.uk/display-teams/red-arrows/

BABC Network News

The May/June period has been the busiest for BAB this year. We responded to a number of interesting developments in the transatlantic policy space, including the resignation of the Prime Minister, and welcomed the President's second official state visit to the United Kingdom. We also welcomed a number of US delegations to the UK, including representatives from Senator Rob Portman's office and student groups from two American Universities. We had the pleasure of speaking to a number of news outlets during the president's visit on a range of topics, from the future of a UK-US Free Trade Agreement, to Huawei - You can listen to all of BAB's media engagement's below.

July was certainly an interesting time in the policy space - particularly for transatlantic relations. The month began with a series of leaked memos from Britain's then Ambassador to the United States, Sir Kim Darroch, claiming that the Trump administration was "inept" and "clumsy." Sir Kim later resigned his post.

It's been an exciting period in the Trade & Investment space for BAB, as we launched our latest Trade and Investment Guide to the UK - 'Finding Your Way' for 2019/20, which we developed to help companies in the US looking to trade or invest across the Atlantic.

July also saw BAB play a leading role in the fourth US-UK SME dialogue, hosted by DAC Beachcroft in Bristol, UK, and both our New York and London offices host the next events in BAB's Accelerate series - Check out what we've been up to in July down below!
