Dear Friends of the BABC,
It's been a hot start to the end of summer
and
with the UK flooded by rain I know where I'd rather be!
Here's my
update on what's been happening this September.
Early in the month we had a
great turnout
at
the BABC Young Professionals Happy Hour Co-hosted with Community Partner Play Rugby USA
. Once again thank you very much to Premier Members Werqwise for hosting this event in their
stylish speakeasy a few floors down from
where last month's event took place.
We welcomed many new faces to the Happy Hour and
the team at Werkwise ensured everyone left satisfied. The winner of the business card drawing

The following week
,
after a long Monday
,
35+ Guests arrived at
DocuSign's p
icturesque Main Street office
. W

g
uests were greeted to a glass of Penfold's own Chardonnay and some light nibbles. 6 award winning wines were tasted with the
centrepiece
being a world famous Penfolds 2014 Grange.
T
he event was a resounding success and we look forward to hosting the next one.
Towards the end of the month on a Sunny Saturday afternoon an intimate group of Young Professionals tasted three
top quality
whiskies at
The Hunter Public House
over in Alameda. The Event was hosted by
Rory Glasgow
a distillery representative and Single Malt Scotch Whisky Ambassador
. The combination of whisky and sunny weather
created a very merry group of attendees!
Speaking of
"
Merry
"
the team ha
s
been hard at work launching the Christmas Luncheon
and once again we've had a
record breaking uptake in ticket sales
with the event already XX% sold out in just XX weeks.
Congratulations team, the stage is set for the 56th annual BABC Christmas Luncheon to be a
nother
cracking one!
Finally, I am also delighted to note that our
BABC community
continues to grow and develop as evidenced by our new and renewing members. I hope you will join me in welcoming the newest members of our vibrant and dynamic community - you will find information about them below. Please take a moment to visit their websites and contact Jo Healey if you would like to learn more.
Best,
Stephen Wares,

Dear friends and members of the BABC,
I hope you all were at or near the Golden Gate Bridge on October 1 for the once in a lifetime flypast of the iconic structure by the Red Arrows - the UK's premiere aerobatic display team.
It was a truly phenomenal moment.
That fly past and day of events, capped 10 days of the Red Arrows in and around Northern California and the Pacific Northwest, where I have been able to see them across the region. From the Oregon International Air Show in McMinnville, Oregon, to science, technology, engineering and maths activities with children of all ages in Portland, Seattle, and Alameda, at schools, hospitals, and in jet hangars; to flypasts of Boeing Field and business and prosperity receptions at each locations - it was an exciting and constructive week. The series of events we were able to host because of this tour was one of the most ambitious undertakings I have seen in my diplomatic career, not to mention one the most rewarding.
As you read this, the team will be making their long journey back to the UK after 11 weeks across North America. As I reflect now,
it was an opportunity to strengthen the UK's bilateral relationships and promote growth and prosperity, as we were able to include a mix of business and public diplomacy activities, but also support the Red Arrows' presence at key North American Air Shows.
The US and the UK have an unprecedented and exciting opportunity to deepen our economic ties in a way that will benefit both our countries and transform the lives of our citizens. This includes, and goes far beyond, a trade deal. Positioning the US and UK strategically at the forefront of new technologies and frontiers will see benefits for both of our countries.
I hope we don't have to wait another 11 years for the team to come back through the US. For now, I'm off to see Top Gun 2.
Andrew Whittaker,
HM Consul General

September 28th 2019
On Saturday the 26
th of September the first BABC YP Scotchtober event was held in Sunny Alameda at
The Hunter Public House; one of the BABCs newest Business members. It was a small group of us that came together from the BABC Young Professionals network including several new members which was great to see.
The conversation between us all flowed from the get-go, before sitting down to our 6 scotch whisky and cheese pairings led by distillery representative Rory Glasgow.
