We know that the phrase, Back to School, doesn’t necessarily mean the same to everyone these days. Whether your child is learning virtually or in a traditional classroom, back to school season is a time for a fresh start. This includes your child’s oral health. We are doing our best to stay up-to-date with our patients’ hygiene appointments, but here are a few tips to keep in mind until we are able to see you and your family in the office again.
Reduce Sugary Drinks – Sugar is the leading cause of tooth decay. Encourage water instead as a healthy alternative.
Regular Brushing and Flossing – Maintain a schedule of brushing twice a day for at least two minutes. And, don’t forget to floss!
Pack a Healthy Lunch – Monitor what your child is eating at lunch and if packing a lunch, be sure to include sources of food high in calcium such as cheese and yogurt. Calcium helps to keep teeth healthy and strong.
Consider a Mouth Guard for Athletics – If your child is playing a sport, inquire about a custom-fitting mouth guard to protect those young smiles!
Brush Together – Encourage brushing for those youngest children by brushing together. Make a fun activity of it and set a good example.
