Celebrating BACnet's 30th Anniversary:
30 Years Building a Smarter Future
| | |
Together with our friends from BACnet Interest Group - Europe, BACnet International is excited to celebrate BACnet's 30th Anniversary as an ASHRAE Standard! We invite our Corporate Members to celebrate this monumental milestone with us!
We invite you to read our special anniversary edition of the Journal of Building Automation and make use of the 30th Anniversary logo in your BACnet marketing efforts. BACnet International looks forward to highlighting the standard's history and continued impact on the building automation landscape, culminating with a celebration at the 2026 AHR Expo in Las Vegas.
"Thirty years is a good time to reflect, but it is no time to stop. As much as BACnet’s origin and evolution have been dynamic and impactful, there is still much to do. Technology continues to evolve, and at each technological transition, there is a natural push to return to proprietary solutions. The ongoing role of BACnet is to pull those new technologies into the standard to ensure users and suppliers can leverage them in an open, interoperable environment," states Andy McMillan, President and Managing Director
"To all the architects, engineers, developers, integrators, technicians, and building owners who rely on and contribute to BACnet, thank you. We are not just maintaining a standard; we are continuously building the essential digital infrastructure for a safer, smarter, and greener future."

Need a refresher on our BTL Mark
Guidelines before the AHR Expo?
| This year's AHR Expo will feature 1,157 BTL Listed Products from 121 companies, 100 of which are BACnet International Corporate Members. | The BTL Mark provides users with confidence that a product has passed the industry standard BACnet conformance tests conducted by a recognized, independent testing organization. The BTL Mark is a mark of distinction, achieved by more than 1,500 products, that many building owners and control system designers consider a must-have to be eligible for a project. The BTL Mark is trademarked and its use is strictly regulated. Products that have been successfully tested by a Recognized BACnet Testing Organization (RBTO) and successfully received the BTL Certification are eligible to display the BTL Mark as part of the listing process. | Read the Special BACnet 30th Anniversary Edition of the Journal of Building Automation | |

Every month, BACnet International
will highlight a resource from
The BACnet Institute (TBI) Resource Library!
| | |
This month's featured TBI resource is "Artificial Intelligence in the Field of Building Automation". Originally published in the BACnet Europe Journal, Issue 43, "Artificial Intelligence in the Field of Building Automation" was written by Prof. Dr. Michael Krödel of Rosenheim Technical University and Graham Martin of EnOcean Alliance. This article offers a forward-looking examination of how emerging applications of artificial intelligence can elevate building automation beyond traditional scheduling and manual control.
Focusing on HVAC, lighting, and facility operations, the piece illustrates how AI-driven systems can analyze occupancy patterns, environmental conditions, and performance data to anticipate needs and optimize energy use in real time. By shifting from reactive adjustments to predictive, data-informed decision-making, buildings can operate more efficiently, enhance occupant comfort, and reduce long-term operational costs. Readers interested in the future of intelligent building management will find this article a clear and informative overview of the transformative potential of AI within modern building systems.
| | The BACnet Institute (TBI) is an online portal for BACnet-focused learning and knowledge sharing. It provides an easy path to BACnet information and learning for everyone involved with BACnet systems. The portal includes three on-demand FREE courses and over 215 resources including white papers, articles, presentations, and a community forum. TBI Resources are free, but registration for an account is required. Courses are eligible for CEUs and PDHs. | | |
For BACnet International Corporate Members, if you have any news concerning one of your BTL-listed products, case studies, or company news stories, let us know, and we will be glad to include it in Cornerstones! All submissions should be sent to Mary Catherine Heard, BACnet International's Marketing and Communications Manager, at marycatherine@bacnetinternational.org.
Please ensure that we are included in your distribution lists for product and company news release as well.
