New on The BACnet Institute: BACnet & Lighting

In 1998, the lighting industry identified multiple challenges for developing a native BACnet networked lighting control system. The Lighting Applications working group was formed in 2001 to improve BACnet’s use as a native network lighting control protocol. Since then, new BACnet objects, services, properties, and other standard values have been added to the BACnet standard to support lighting control. This presentation highlights these developments.

Cybersecurity Acceleration Program

The program will provide a complete Certificate Authority reference implementation and a sister tool (BACCARI) that can generate and validate Certificate Signing Request files and package them into an interoperable file format for the Certificate Authority. Additionally, all program participants will have access to cybersecurity implementation webinars and an interactive, peer-to-peer forum led by experts in BACnet and cybersecurity.

Participation in the program will help suppliers ensure their certificate management tools are interoperable with tools from other suppliers. This will keep integration costs down and maintain their reputation as collaborative participants in multivendor environments. The program will also shorten the learning curve for manufacturers who need cybersecurity implementation experts on staff and help ensure their products are ready for whatever comes next in building automation cybersecurity. Access to BRITE is also included in the Cybersecurity Acceleration Program.

TBI RESOURCE CORNER

Every month, BACnet International will highlight a resource from The BACnet Institute (TBI) Resource Library!

This month's featured TBI resource is "Legacy Buildings Need Love Too" by Steve Jones, S4 Integration Solutions. Gateway technology can open the door to very quickly and cost effectively improve the operation, monitoring, and management of buildings with legacy BAS installations. Making those legacy systems look like modern, standards based, BACnet systems, enables upgrades of those legacy systems look like modern, standards based, BACnet systems, enables upgrades of your operator workstation and global controllers immediately, improving the building’s operational efficiency. The best gateway technologies allow your new applications and head end to co-exist with your legacy head end and provide network performance metrics to help manage the installation.
