BADGE program provides a unique education

The Carrollton Police Department has created a program called BADGE, which stands for Bullying, Attitude, Drugs, and Gangs Education. With the addition of two more CPD School Resource Officers on the Carrollton City Schools campus this year, SRO Amanda Moore was able to coordinate implementation of the program at CMS. The 10-week program is designed to teach children about Internet safety, bullying, school violence, gangs, friendship, stress, peer pressure, attitudes, personal safety, and drugs. Lessons offer a chance for the children to role play using their new skills and help them gain self-confidence for real-life situations. The lessons also help students identify positive alternatives to drug abuse and violence. This week at CMS, K-9 Unit officer Chad Wilson, handler of Imala, visited students to explain the use of this division and share the unique training required of the dogs. At right is SRO Moore. Below, i n a classroom setting, SRO Moore talks to CMS students about abuse. In the right photo, the other two SROs, officers Justin Cardell and Jerric Gilbert, discuss another topic with a class.
Hector's Trojan Gold Bash a big success
Carrollton Elementary students whose behavior has been Trojan Gold for the first nine weeks of school celebrated on a crisp fall morning today at Hector's Trojan Gold Bash!

The celebration was truly a campus event with assistance from Carrollton High School cheerleaders and CHS and CJHS football players. The entire CHS band also showed up to entertain. Even CCS School Nutrition brought its food trailer to serve snacks. At right, students challenged Hector's goalkeeping skills. See more photos on Facebook.
