A lot is stirring in this month and year of resistance.  First, it is Black History Month, a perfect time to consciously learn more about queer people of color's, especially black queer women's, many contributions to society and social justice movements.  I strongly recommend Patrice Cullors's, co-founder of BLM, latest book and memoir When They Call You a Terrorist. 

Second, BALIF's amicus committee has been busy authoring and signing on to important briefs designed to combat the current presidential administration's attacks on our rights.  Most recently, the Ninth Circuit cited to a brief that BALIF signed on to in Hawaii v. Trump, which highlighted how #45's discriminatory travel ban is particularly harmful to the LGBTQ community.  The USSC granted certiorari in this matter, so stay tuned for an update on BALIF's continued amicus efforts. 

Third, BALIF is starting a Racial Justice & Inclusion Task Force for queer attorneys of color.  The goal of the task for is to expand BALIF's racial and intersectional justice initiatives and create space and programming for QPOC members.  For more information, please email [email protected].
