Message from the BALIF Board

It's a busy week at BALIF.  As we are finalizing our mentor-mentee matches, preparing for our October/Mentorship Happy Hour, and Halloween Fundraiser, a BALIF delegation traveled to Sacramento to advocate and lobby to pass resolution protecting LGBTQ and minority populations.

Every year BALIF sends a delegation to the Conference of California Bar Associations.  The annual conference is a gathering of attorneys from across the state, all pushing to have the CCBA head lobbyist shop the approved resolution to state legislators in the state capital.   This year BALIF succeeded in passing many resolutions, including a call for CalPERS and CalSTRS (both public employment retirement funds) to divest from investments in businesses contributing to construction of a wall along the US/Mexico border.

If you want to hear more about BALIF's trip to Sacramento, I invite you to Happy Hour on 10/19, or the fundraiser on 10/25.

Sincerely,

Stan Sarkisov
BALIF Communications Chair
