Join the BALIF Board
A great way to serve the LGBTQI legal community and become more involved in BALIF is to join BALIF's Board of Directors. BALIF's Directors are elected by the BALIF membership and each Director holds office for two years. Any BALIF member is welcome to run for the Board or nominate another BALIF member. BALIF seeks a board that reflects the diversity of our LGBTQI legal community, and we specifically encourage people of color, women, transgender people, and non-binary/gender non-conforming people to run for the Board.

To run for the Board or nominate someone else, please send a candidate statement of up to 250 words to our secretary (secretary@balif.org) and BALIF's Administrative Director, Katie Carlson (balif@balif.org) by April 1, 2021 at 5:30 pm. BALIF's bylaws require gender parity on the Board, with a certain number of positions allocated to Directors who identify as male, female, or other genders (a broad category including but not limited to non-binary, genderqueer, gender variant, and gender non-conforming). So if you are seeking a position, please indicate the category under which you plan to run. If you are interested in receiving an endorsement from the Nominating Committee, please submit your candidate statement no later than March 15, 2021 at 5:30 p.m.

Elections will be held online from April 15 to April 22, and we will hold a candidate forum on Thursday, April 15, 2021 from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. BALIF's annual general membership meeting will be held virtually on Thursday, April 22, 2021 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. to announce the elections results and give the membership a year-end update.

Thinking about seeking a position? Know someone who would make a fabulous addition to the Board? Want to learn more about BALIF and what's involved in being on the Board? Please contact Katie at balif@balif.org.

2020-2021 Membership & Donation Drive
We encourage all of you, whether current or lapsed member or friend, to consider donating to BALIF, joining BALIF, and/or renewing your BALIF membership! Like most nonprofits, BALIF has been financially impacted by the pandemic. Nevertheless, we have been able to put together extensive, timely, and unique programming for nearly every facet of our LGBTQI+ legal community, as detailed in our BALIF Year-End Review below. We also did all of this while extending free 2020-21 memberships to all BALIF members existing as of June 2020 as well as all new law student, recently graduated, and/or currently unemployed members. We will not be able to continue this great work without the engagement and financial support from members and friends like you. So please do consider donating at https://www.balif.org/donate and/or becoming a new member or renewing your existing membership at https://www.balif.org/membership!

Please note that all members who were on auto-renew prior to June 2020 are no longer on auto-renew. This means that all existing members will need to affirmatively renew their membership before June 2021 to continue their membership beyond June 2021 and/or be placed back into auto-renewal. What better day to renew than today?
