How long have you been a BAMA member? I’ll qualify it like this, there is real difference between being a member and being and “active” member. We/I have been a member for a number of years, but it’s only in the last couple that we have become more active.

What do you like most about being a BAMA member? Being exposed to other member companies that you might otherwise never been aware of.

Tell us about Cavaform and your capabilities. We’re a 43 year old family owned precision mold maker for the plastics industry. We pride ourselves on being a one stop shop for our customers. We can take a concept and design, model, prototype, build, test, qualify and mold plastic parts without leaving our campus.

How has your involvement with BAMA influenced your career? About 3 years ago, Dave Massie made me his GM and his 2nd in command. Part of the reason had to do with the breath of my background and being involved with BAMA adds to that.

What do you consider your greatest accomplishment to date? I’ll stick with recent history on this one (that’s because I’ve been around a long time). We’re were nominated for, and made it to the semi-final stage of Florida’s Sterling Manufacturing Business Excellence Award. I’ve really enjoyed being on the front lines of that process and seeing our team come together.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received? Listen before you speak

What is the most important skill you have developed in your career? Patience, I’m not sure if that comes with age or experience.

What are your hobbies or interests? I love sports, especially college football and I’m a bad golfer who is working on becoming “less bad”.

Beckwith Electric’s Dr. Murty V.V.S. Yalla Elected to the National Academy of Engineering

Congratulations to Dr. Murty V. V. S. Yalla!

Dr. Yalla was elected to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) for contributions to digital protection and control devices for the grid.

Election to the National Academy of Engineering is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer. Academy membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to "engineering research, practice, or education, including, where appropriate, significant contributions to the engineering literature" and to "the pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to engineering education." Election of new NAE members is the culmination of a yearlong process. The ballot is set in December and the final vote for membership occurs during January.

Dr. Yalla will be formally inducted during the NAE's annual meeting on Oct. 3, 2021.

Founded in 1964, the National Academy of Engineering is a private, independent, nonprofit institution that provides engineering leadership in service to the nation. It has more than 2,000 peer-elected members and foreign associates, senior professionals in business, academia, and government, who are among the world’s most accomplished engineers.
