HUD FILES DISCRIMINATION COMPLAINT AGAINST FACEBOOK
The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) filed its complaint against Facebook on Friday. The agency, led by Dr. Ben Carson, alleged in its complaint that Facebook marketing tools allow for potential advertisers to filter out minorities and other protected classes.
If you have never used Facebook's ad generator it allows you to target your ads to specific demographics. The Washington Examiner reported that," it (FB) offers advertisers discriminatory options such as hiding ads from Facebook users who expressed interest in particular churches or who appear to be parents- or who live in a specific zip code.
This complaint follows in the heels of several other complaints filed against Facebook for discriminatory search options. If the courts find Facebook to be an internet content provider then the social media giant would be subject to fair housing law.
