Proposed Federal Budget Cuts Takes Huge Swing at Affordable Housing

The proposed budget s lashes the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's budget by $8.7 billion—or 16.4%—next year. That would bring HUD's total in gross discretionary funding to $44.1 billion in 2020. HUD programs assist low- to moderate-income households to afford rental housing and buy homes. The agency also enforces fair housing laws (REALTOR.com)

According to the NAR 2019 1st Quarter Housing Opportunity & Market Survey, consumers strongly believe now is the time to buy.
This is up 34% from the last quarter. A full 47% believe home prices in their communities (particularly in the South) will rise in the next 6 months, fueling home sales this second quarter. An improved economy, stabilizing mortgage rates and inventory increases all contribute to a projected strong 2nd quarter market.

The Fed Backs Off Interest Rate Increases

The Federal Reserve announced Wednesday after its March meeting that it will leave its short-term interest rates unchanged and also signaled that it likely will not raise rates for the remainder of the year. This marks a sudden change to what had been five consecutive quarters of rate increases. he Fed’s rate is not directly tied to mortgage rates but often influences them.
