Happy 1st Anniversary BARC!

Thank you everyone who supported us through a successful first year!
George Kosanke

George came to BARC with an arch in his back and his right hind leg not touching the ground after a FHO (femoral head ostectomy), a common surgery for hip dysplasia. Along with a gait abnormality due to his shortened leg, he also had significant muscle loss (atrophy) from lack of use.  George also has dysplasia in his left hip and his parents were considering doing the same surgery on the other side but wanted to get him well on the right side first. His parents were very motivated to get him better and decided to bring him to therapy three times a week.

George started his journey with therapy (LASER, exercises, manual work) and acupuncture three times a week to control his pain and help work on his hip and knee extension range of motion.  After his pain was managed and he had achieved better range of motion he started working in the underwater treadmill. The underwater treadmill was used to help improve his weight bearing and strength and also continue working on his hip extension.

After 2 months George is walking great and it is almost impossible to tell he ever had any issue! And there are currently no plans to do surgery on his left hip since he is doing so well!  After George graduated from BARC treatment he now comes twice a week for maintenance using the underwater therapy which he enjoys very much.
Carts for Pets at BARC

Do you think your pet may need “wheels” to prolong or improve their mobility? We can help! At BARC we work closely with Eddie’s Wheels to provide you with a custom fitted cart. We take pictures and videos and all the measurements to make a custom cart that is specifically fit to your cat or dog.
Our team has been measuring and fitting carts for over 10 years and therefore have the most experience in all of southern California. It is important to understand what type of cart is appropriate (front wheel, rear wheel, or quad cart). Important questions to ask are should it be neutral balanced or variable axle and are stirrups or training wheels appropriate. Proper measurements are key to a successful fit and to ensure that your pet will actually use the cart.

Let our team at BARC help you make the right decision about a cart and get your pet measured correctly.

… Hippocrates

As children, we are told to eat our veggies and fruit and go easy on the sweets and junk food. We try to follow that same idea as adults. But what about our pets? There is an epidemic of inflammatory diseases among our canine companions…arthritis, Cushing’s disease, Hypothyroidism, tendon ruptures, cataracts, senility, obesity, heart disease, inter-vertebral disc disease and 1 in 2 dogs will have cancer by the time they are 10 years of age. We think the cause is multi-factorial…but we do know that poor diets, the sub-standard foods that we have unknowingly been feeding to our dogs may have something to do with it.

To thrive, like people, animals need real, natural, nutritious, unprocessed food, that is relatively free of chemicals. At BARC, we have combined our knowledge of nutrition, integrating experience with Nutrigenomics, an area of science that looks at how foods affect gene expression, and Food Therapy, a branch of Traditional Chinese Medicine, to address the needs of our patients and support their health and longevity.... read more
