BASIS Pflugerville Coffee with the HOS and HOPs
Hello BASIS Pflugerville Founding Families,

It is hard to believe that we are entering the summer season already! This year has flown by so quickly. The BASIS Pflugerville building progress continues to move along in a very positive way. The amount of progress is harder to see because they are focusing on the smaller details now, but is it coming along beautifully and will be ready for tours sometime in July or August.

I know some families were unable to attend our Typhoon Texas events. These were a moment where many brought their questions they had as well as enjoyed meeting and spending time with other BASIS Pflugerville students and families. If you were not able to attend or even if you were able to , we would like to invite you to bring any questions or simply to come by to say "hello" at our upcoming coffee chats. Jayme and I will be set up at West Pecan Coffee on Pecan St. (please see information below).

As a friendly reminder, below are the school times for our grade levels. Our before school program, EarlyBird, is available for all grades starting at 7:00 AM daily and is free. We also have a fee-based LateBird program that goes until 6:00 PM. If you have students with siblings or are members of carpools, please note that we will happily default the students to the later pick-up time without incurring a LateBird fee.

Meet the Teacher
Biology
I am so excited to join the BASIS Pflugerville team! I am currently teaching at BASIS Austin as the 6th grade Biology and Physics, 7th grade Biology and Physics, and the Algebra and Geometry II teacher. I am looking forward to continuing my teaching role at BASIS Pflugerville. I graduated from the University of Arizona in 2018 with a B.S. in Molecular and Cellular Biology, and minors in Biochemistry, Mathematics, and Studio Art. I have been teaching for 4 years, 2 of which have been at BASIS schools. I began my teaching experience at BASIS Phoenix Central in 2018 as a Subject Expert Teacher for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Biology. I then moved to Austin, TX in 2019 where I taught high school Biology for 2 more years before joining the BASIS Austin team in 2021.
Outside of teaching, I enjoy playing sand volleyball, reading, doing crossword puzzles, and cuddling my cat, Gambit. I am a huge Marvel and Harry Potter fan (hence the Slytherin lanyard) and I look forward to a fantastic opening year at BASIS Pflugerville.

Meet the Teacher
1st Grade LET
Martha Pitts
My name is Martha Pitts, and I am excited to be a 1st grade LET at BASIS Pflugerville. I was born and raised in a small town in Texas. I have taught elementary for 2 years. I also have experience working for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice as a Correctional Officer. I always knew I wanted to be a teacher, even when I was young. I always enjoyed helping others learn and grow. I went to Tarleton State University where I received a Bachelors of Science. I then went through a program at iteach Texas to pursue my career in teaching.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy watching my four kids play sports. I also enjoy movie nights at home with my husband and kids.

We are going to learn so many great things this year, and I am looking forward to every minute of it!

Subathra Sabapathi
Meet the Teacher
Arithmetic B, Algebra/Geometry1
Pre-Calculus AB
My name is Subathra Sabapathi and I’m so excited to be a part of the BASIS Pflugerville team as a Subject Expert Math teacher for 5th to 8th grade. My journey with BASIS Charter Schools started last year as a Teaching Fellow and I taught 5th grade Math at BASIS Austin.
I have a huge passion for teaching mathematics. I earned a Masters and Master's of Philosophy degree in Mathematics along with my Bachelor of Education degree from Pondicherry University in India. Before moving to the United States, I was teaching various levels of mathematics for grades 6-12 as well as college-level students. Some of the subjects I taught are Algebra, Calculus, and Statistics. Prior to BASIS, I worked as a middle school math teacher at the Russian School of Mathematics in California where I taught 6th-grade Algebra and 8th-grade Geometry. The field of specialization during my M.Phil was Fluid Dynamics “Ferro-thermohaline convection in a variable viscosity” and I have attended national conferences and presented papers.
We moved to Austin in 2019 from California. Before that, we lived in Phoenix, Arizona. I like cooking, drawing, painting, doing exercises, yoga, meditation, and playing Badminton. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. In my free time, I love to go for a walk, shop, watch movies, travel, and try new restaurants.
I’m looking forward to sharing my enthusiasm, passion for the subject, and love of education with my students!

I served as a Special Education Support Facilitator at Klein ISD. My most recent service is a Substitute Teacher/ Special Education Teacher Assistant(Life Skills/Inclusion) for Harmony Public Schools. I place a high value in personal integrity and represent my employer, community, and myself in an ethical and respectable manner. I have diligence in paying close attention to the details and needs of every student, parent, and staff member. I may be assigned 20 but I will serve 2,000! I believe in serving my community in and out the classroom. I look forward to having a beautiful groundbreaking year with all of you!

Meet the Teacher
3rd Grade LET
Tara Towner
Hello families! My name is Tara Towner and I am very excited to join the BASIS Pflugerville staff next year as a 3rd grade LET. For the last 2 years I have been in the LET role for 2nd grade at the BASIS Austin Primary campus and prior to that I was a 2nd grade LET at BASIS Scottsdale Primary East in Arizona. I have my B.A. in Elementary Education and my M.S. in Cybersecurity. In my free time I enjoy reading and learning new tricks in aerial silks.
The best part of being a teacher is when you inspire the students and see them grow. In recent years, I really loved how inspired the kids got when we started reading The Series of Unfortunate Events books in READ class and inspiring a student to make his own behavior clip chart for home! I can honestly say there is never a dull day at work! Can’t wait to see what next year brings.
