BASIS Plans Support for OpenJDK

You may have encountered the following "Change in License Terms" alert when updating Oracle Java on your company or personal machines. On or about January 1, 2019, Oracle will begin charging corporate users to use their version of Java SE in a production environment.

OpenJDK

Fortunately, BASIS International Ltd. has already been supporting other JVMs from vendors like HP and IBM on their proprietary Operating System platforms for many years, and we have been extensively testing an alternative to Oracle's Java JVM for the most popular platforms used by our community.

By January 2019, BASIS will begin support for an additional JVM, OpenJDK, for use in Microsoft Windows, Linux, and OS X deployments. OpenJDK, an open-source implementation of Java SE, has been in existence since 2006. OpenJDK has been, and continues to be, the official reference implementation of Oracle's Java SE since Java version 7.
