We are now only one week away from the first ever BASIS.ed Texas Summer Institute!
We are getting excited about welcoming all of the Texas teachers and non-teaching staff for this exciting event! There will be plenty of time set-aside for us to meet as a team during the event, so we will work to distill the information, build community, and prepare for the year.
Please take a moment to review the schedules by clicking the buttons to the right and please note that check-in is no later than 10AM on July 25th.
We look forward to seeing you there!

Teach Like a Champion
As part of our ongoing Professional Development, each teacher will be provided with Teach Like a Champion 3.0 which is required reading for all team members. Everyone will receive a copy of this book for their own possession, so write in it, highlight it, and make it your own! We will use it often and use the techniques within to develop a common repertoire as we develop our craft!
Like the computers, these should be picked up this week when picking up your computer!

Logic of English
All new Learning Expert Teachers, EETs, EETFs, and Humanities SETs 1-3 should have received an invitation from the Logic of English to register for training modules. If you have not received this invitation, please reach out to me (David) ASAP, so we can problem solve. These trainings will be essential to be completed prior to the week of August 8th. Additionally, each of these teachers will receive a small book titled, Uncovering the Logic of English. It is an excellent text and is the WHY behind this curriculum, which is one of the few non-proprietary curricula we use. Because it is that good!

JLJ T-Shirts!
When you arrive to grab the other items, we will also be providing each Founding Team Member the very first JLJ T-Shirt. We would like all team members to wear them on the first day of Summer Institute. We will also be providing you a pair of color changing shades, so we will roll into the Institute in style! ( :
We are also ordering nice athletic style polos for each member. Those will be coming shortly!

Teacher & Staff Highlights

|
|
As we prepare for the school year, On-Site Training will begin for all team members at 8AM on Monday, August 1st. The first day will be culture and team development. The rest of the week will be a number of team meetings, and BASIS Beautification. Teachers and Staff will have plenty of time to get into their classrooms and their work space to organize and beautify! We will be hosting the families, so we want the building to be fun, festive, warm, and exciting! Bring your creativity!
The following week will be a number of trainings and family events, so be on the lookout for the full schedule coming next week!
|
|
**Important Note**
While the building is nearing completion, during On-Site, there will be various construction crews putting the final touches on any areas missed. Additionally, there was a delay with the elevator, so while those upstairs will have access to their rooms during that first week of On-Site Training, furniture will be placed during that week.

What are we reading/listening to?
|
|
Often times, "conventional" wisdom tells us that we should really focus on developing critical thinking skills in lieu of facts and memorization. While in theory, that is a decent premise, but at BASIS, we fully appreciate that it should not be an either/or proposition, rather, both/and.
Recently I came across this article based on a longitudinal study that affirms, learning begets learning. As a BASIS enthusiast, I found it compelling and hope you do too!
