On Saturday, April 29th, we had over 150 Founding Families come through with their JLJ Passports, stopping at puzzling stations, and getting their purple JLJ sunglasses. If you want a pair, you have to go through the stations too! ( ;
A BIG thanks to Jane, Christine, Gilda, Jennifer, Crystal, Ken, Ruby, and Sandra for all your help. The families had a great time, and there is no doubt this is going to help our conversion efforts!

We need teachers who are interested in providing this instruction to our newest learners, and of course, you will be paid handsomely!

BOSS Camp is designed to help prepare students for BASIS San Antonio - Jack Lewis Jr. Campus by teaching them basic organization, study, reading and note taking skills, as well as acquaint them with an actual BASIS Texas Charter School. All content will be grade and developmentally appropriate, even for our youngest learners. “BOSS” will reinforce academic abilities by focusing on time management and classroom preparation to equip students with confidence and the skills for success. This program also allows students to meet their peers and some of the new teachers & staff prior to the first day of school, and of course, have some fun!
Dates:
Time:
- BOSS Camp - 9:00AM – 12:00PM
- BOSS Late Bird (optional) - 12:00PM - 4:00PM

We will share more of our team members each month!

Demand remains high for BASIS San Antonio - Jack Lewis Jr Campus. This past week alone, we received nearly 20 applications!
Additionally, this week we exceeded 110% enrollment to budget. While that seems intimidating, as a new campus, it is always the case that some families opt not to show-up on the first day. Providing a buffer ensures that we hit our enrollment target to and through the year.
We are thrilled with the interest and our enrollment team working to turn that interest into applications. The work has continued to ensure conversion, and if the smile in the picture here tells us anything, it is that our future kiddos are excited about being a Founding Student!

We are getting closer and closer to opening our doors!
Each week brings exciting new updates to the building, but as of now, we are thrilled with the progress. We anticipate our Certificate of Occupancy the second week of July. Once we have obtained it, we will let all new team members know so they can come check out the building!

What are we reading/listening to?

We all love kids right? Well...we HOPE you do! ( ;
At BASIS, we work very hard for our kiddos and expect them to work equally hard. We have very high expectations for them and at times, that requires a bit of mental fortitude with an "eye on the prize."
If you have an hour or so, the episode titled, "Kid Logic" from the podcast and radio show This American Life was a not-so-subtle reminder that our students are, well, kids! It is quite funny, and warmed my heart a bit as I drove through West-Texas with a few of my own little ones in the back seat.
Yes, we have high standards for them. Yes, we expect them to be progressing toward model men and women in our society. Yes, they do and will do amazing things. But, at this point, they are still kids, and we should love that, embrace that, and enjoy that. Because, after all, it's one of the best parts of our jobs!

I have shared with each of you the BASIS Standards of Excellence. This document was created to re-establish a common ethos of how students, teachers, staff members, and leaders ought to interact on a BASIS campus. To name the exemplar, because we believed that perhaps our ethos was beginning to slip.
BASIS is truly a different place, and if we don't retain our identify, we become just "another" school option. Not what we should be, which is a "very specific option."
I am so thrilled with each of the team members forming our team and believe we will live up to all the expectations our founders set to bring about when they started in 1998. At JLJ we have one chance to get it right! With that, I stumbled upon a document written by one of our founders, Olga Block, right after BASIS was founded.
I encourage you to give it a read!
