A Visit To New Bedford Community Health
From BB: I was excited to receive an invitation from New Bedford Community Health President & CEO Cheryl Bartlett to tour this community health establishment. Little did I know that in addition to providing medical services – medical, mental health, dental, etc., this special place is also home to a growing art gallery as well! I was aware that some of my work was included on these walls, but I had no idea the scope of Cheryl’s art endeavor. Currently NBCH has fourteen (14) of my large fine art prints (all 32” x 48”) in their permanent art collection along with numerous very impressive paintings, too many for me to count. The pediatric department itself is a “painting” as artists painted the walls of the entire department depicting the ocean and nautical scenes. It was very cool – and I can only imagine it goes a long way in helping kids to have some fun “exploring the sea” in an otherwise most likely stressful visit for them to see a doctor. It was an awesome feeling to be told that both patients and hospital staff find joy from viewing my art - it gets no better than that. With each department I visited, each person I met, and with each piece of wonderful art I viewed, it was apparent what an important part of the New Bedford community this health center is and how tightly it is woven into the fabric that is New Bedford. I am honored that so much of my work hangs on these walls.
