A Note from BB

Recently I did an interview for a magazine article on the art scene on the Cape. Interesting was when I read the article extraordinarily little of what I said to the interviewer ended up in the article, BUT, they did refer to me as a “musician.” I haven’t heard that in at least 31 years, about the time I played my last live gig! 😊 Anyhow, it did kick me into “remember when” mode; recalling my years as a musician travelling across the country, the Florida beach resorts, the Caribbean, and beyond, performing before thousands, without a care, and thinking it would last forever…LOL. What I also remembered was that I ALWAYS had my photography gear with me, not having a clue - back then - that the visual arts would be where I would eventually land for good. Music gave me a ticket to travel, to see and explore so much of our country. Music gave my eyes a continuously changing feast of color, shapes, shadows, sun, sand and surf, all of which still largely shape my creations to this day. You will always hear music playing in my gallery, it's part of me and what I do; it's part of an ambiance that I like to live in.
Yeah, I guess I may still be a “musician” of sorts… I play the camera.

Have a great month!

“You don’t make a photograph just with a camera. You bring to the act of photography all the pictures you have seen, the books you have read, the music you have heard, the people you have loved.”

“Bobby Baker is one of New England’s best coastal photographers. His artistry really shines as he uses the limitations of black and white photography to shoot shadow and light with lasting emotional resonance.”
