Main Street Bucksport Welcomes New Board Members!
Main Street Bucksport is pleased to welcome two new Board members, Sarah Bissonnette of Bucksport and Ron Russell of Verona Island.

Sarah Bissonnette was born in Blue Hill and grew up in Holden. Sarah graduated from John Bapst Memorial High School and then from the University of Southern Maine with a BA in Political Science. After testing the waters in Massachusetts and Southern California, she finally settled back in Maine. Sarah lives in Bucksport with her husband Paul, stepson William, and daughter Emma. You’ll often see her walking the neighborhood simultaneously pushing Emma in a stroller and walking her large, black dog Molly. Sarah is looking forward to supporting Main Street’s mission and witnessing the growth of Bucksport’s artist community, schools, and the development and proliferation of businesses in our lovely and historic town.

Ron Russell has lived on "Welcome Home Farm" on Verona Island since 1980. He married Jeanne Jewett (a Bucksport girl!) in 1972 and together they have four children, all graduates of Bucksport High School and four grand children with a fifth one on the way! Ron recently retired from 42 years with the Darling's Auto Group & Associated Companies. He is interested in gardening, landscaping, bee keeping, making maple syrup, community volunteering, the environment, and the future of our area (in no particular order.) Ron has lots of energy and willing to use it to help transform downtown Bucksport.

At the same time, the Main Street Bucksport Board says farewell and thank you to a founding member, Roxanne Jobe. Roxanne was instrumental in the creation of a Main Street program in Bucksport and has dedicated four years to leadership of the group. Roxanne and her husband Larry recently sold their house and business in Bucksport and although they will continue to think of Bucksport as home, they are spending much of their time in warmer climates. The Board sends a sincere thank you to Roxanne for her inspiration, enthusiasm, and commitment to the revitalization of downtown Bucksport.
Main Street Bucksport Hosts Poem in Your Pocket Day
Poem in Your Pocket day comes to downtown Bucksport on Saturday, April 21.
Poem in Your Pocket Day 2018 is part of National Poetry Month. On this day people are encouraged to select a poem, carry it with them, and share it with others at schools, bookstores, libraries, parks, workplaces, street corners, and on social media using the hashtag #pocketpoem.

Main Street Bucksport is working with downtown merchants to help cross promote a Poem in Your Pocket Day special. The idea is simple. You choose a product or service that you'll give a 10% discount for is someone comes in with a poem in their pockets. We will place small baskets of poems around town and encourage people to visit various businesses to load up on poems in their pockets.  Learn More about MSB...

Several downtown businesses have already sign on. MSB will take out an ad in the Enterprise the week of the event and will gratefully accept any donation you can give to help offset advertising costs. This event is also being promoted by Bucksport's Poet Leureate, Pat Ranzoni. She will downtown on Poem in Your Pocket day reading poems and promoting a love of poetry.

Poem in Your Pocket Day was initiated in April 2002 by the Office of the Mayor in New York City, in partnership with the city’s Departments of Cultural Affairs and Education. In 2008, the Academy of American Poets took the initiative to all fifty United States, encouraging individuals around the country to participate. In 2016, the League of Canadian Poets extended Poem in Your Pocket Day to Canada.
IRS News
1. First quarter estimated tax payment due April 17

Small businesses and self-employed individuals often need to make quarterly estimated tax payments to cover their tax obligation and avoid paying penalties. Estimated tax payments can be used to pay both income tax and self-employment tax (Social Security and Medicare).

The first payment installment for 2018 is due April 17. IRS Direct Pay is the fastest and easiest way to make these payments. The Electronic Federal Tax Payment System ( EFTPS ) and the IRS2Go mobile app are also secure and time-efficient options.

2. Business owners: Beware of ‘IRS Refunds’ email scam

In an April 9 news release , the IRS identifies a new bogus email pretending to be from “IRS Refunds,” and containing a link that connects to a fake page where thieves try to steal personally identifiable information, such as Social Security numbers.

These links or attachments often download malware that can give the scammers control of the computer or track keystrokes to determine sensitive passwords or critical information, placing personal and/or business data at risk.
