Local Everyday Local Everyway Scavenger Hunt
As part of the Bucksport Heart and Soul's eighty-two citizen generated ideas, expanding the buy local program was one with high impact and high feasibility. We plan to expand our seasonal buy local program and inspire and motivate everyone to shop local everyday and in every way. In 2019, we present to you our year round Local Everyday Local Everyway campaign.

The Bucksport Bay Area Chamber of Commerce has held a #ThinkLocalFirst campaign in partnership with other organizations in Bucksport since 2014. "Bathtubs Over Broadway"
Sponsored by: Handmade Papers Gallery
of Brooklin, Maine
April 26-28, 2019
documentary/comedy
87 minutes
PG-13

When he started as a comedy writer for the "Late Show with David Letterman," Steve Young had few interests outside of his day job. But while gathering material for a segment on the show, Steve stumbled onto a few vintage record albums that would change his life forever. Bizarre cast recordings - marked "internal use only" - revealed full-throated Broadway-style musical shows about some of the most recognizable corporations in America: General Electric, McDonald's, Ford, DuPont, Xerox. Steve didn't know much about musical theater, but these recordings delighted him in a way that nothing ever had. While tracking down rare albums, unseen footage, composers and performers, Steve forms unlikely friendships and discovers that this discarded musical genre starring tractors and bathtubs was bigger than Broadway.
With David Letterman, Chita Rivera, Martin Short, Jello Biafra, and more.

IRS News
1. IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig’s message to taxpayers: Thank you for filing

As the tax filing deadline approaches on April 15, I’d like to thank taxpayers for taking the time to file and pay their taxes. Our nation’s tax system is built around the concept of voluntary tax compliance, meaning citizens comply with their civic duty each year by preparing and filing their taxes – without direct government intervention.

2. Important message for your employees: Even if you can’t pay, file tax returns on time

The IRS advises that even if you can’t pay, you should file your taxes on time. Taxpayers who do not file returns timely and do not pay the amount owed with their return will see their tax debt grow due to penalties and interest.
Options available on the IRS.gov website: Filing your taxes, Tax payment options

4. Latest information on the 199A qualified business income deduction

Owners of businesses operated through sole proprietorships, partnerships, S corporations, trusts and estates may be eligible to deduct up to 20 percent of their qualified business income, plus 20 percent of qualified real estate investment trust dividends and qualified publicly traded partnership income. Those eligible can claim it for the first time on their 2018 federal income tax returns filed in 2019. IRS Fact Sheet

5. Revised EIN application process to enhance security begins May 13

As part of an ongoing IRS security review, only individuals with tax identification numbers may request an Employer Identification Number (EIN) as the “responsible party” on the application. This goes into effect May 13, 2019. The change will prohibit entities from using their own EINs to obtain additional EINs.

See the March 27 news release: IRS revises EIN application process; seeks to enhance security for more information.
