Frost Fest is an annual winter celebration held in Bucksport during February school vacation. Activities this year will be on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the ice skating rink on Miles Lane in Bucksport.

An old fashioned ice skating party will have music, skating & dancing and will kick it off at 11am. Other activities include a snow sculpture competition brought to us by Seaboard Federal Credit Union and miniature golf in a course made of SNOW! To rent a putter and a ball is $5, under 5 years old FREE.

Phil Smith, master magician, entertains children, and adults. He entertains at homes, schools, and many other settings from Maine to Boston and beyond. Smith is a ‘kid at heart,’ which makes his magic dazzle everyone. Phil Smith of Abracadabra Productions will be at Frost Fest from 12 AM to 2 PM for Strolling interactive magical experiences.

Funds raised support the Bucksport YMCA and the Bucksport Bay Area Chamber of Commerce. All the fun will wrap up at 3pm when the snow sculptures will be judged and the winner awarded their prize!

Our Community PTO will be joining us this year and will be selling warm food and drinks. All proceeds of food and drink sales benefit the PTO who assist with the needs and wants of the students and staff throughout the school year.

We hope to provide a fun, healthy, invigorating cold weather experience for children and their families in our local communities. This event helps us demonstrate that our multi-faceted communities are active destinations for those looking for exciting and diverse activities during the winter months.

Goodbye Christopher Robin
Sponsored by Castine Cinema Club
January 19-21, 2018

GOODBYE CHRISTOPHER ROBIN gives a rare glimpse into the relationship between beloved children's author A. A. Milne (Domhnall Gleeson) and his son Christopher Robin (Will TIlston), whose toys inspired the magical world of Winnie-the-Pooh. Along with his mother Daphne (Margot Robbie), and his nanny Olive (Kelly Macdonald), Christopher Robin and his family are swept up in the international success of the books; the enchanting tales bringing hope and comfort to England after the First World War. But with the eyes of the world on Christopher Robin, what will the cost be to the family?

Miles Lane Students take part in WinterKids
WinterKids, a statewide initiative to encourage kids and their families to get active outdoors throughout the winter months, is inspiring students and faculty to have some winter fun. Miles Lane Principal Christina Ellis said, “Our kids are so excited and having so much fun with it. Even the staff are getting involved; one of our teachers tried skating for the first time too.”
The inclement weather has prompted a switch in the planned order of the activities at the school, an adjustment that the WinterKids program allows to keep the statewide competition fair.
This week, students bring their newfound knowledge home; the students become the teachers during family engagement week and will be logging hours spent as a family on healthy physical activity and nutrition initiatives. In addition, Miles Lane will be partnering with the Bucksport YMCA to bring a family skate night to the skating rink on Wednesday January 24 at 6pm.
Ellis said that the school gains points not just from the percentage of students participating in the WinterKids activities, but also from partnering with community organizations for support. Throughout the challenge, Miles Lane has also been working with Healthy Acadia, utilizing Let’s Go 5210 resources around physical activity and healthy nutrition and the US Department of Agriculture’s SNAP Ed nutrition classes.
For more information about the WinterKids program, visit their website at www.winterkids.org

Bridge the Gap Race April 8, 2018
Held annually since 2012, Bridge the Gap has quickly gained popularity as one of Eastern Maine's rites of spring!

In 2017 Crow Athletics became the newest caretakers of this important community event, and changed the course slightly; both races continue to start at Fort Knox in Prospect, and cross the stunning Penobscot Narrows Bridge. The 10-Miler tours Verona Island from west to east, while the 3-Miler follows the scenic river walk. Both races finish on Main Street in the heart of downtown Bucksport!

We have been working closely Main Street Bucksport and we are thrilled to bring this race into their friendly downtown! In addition to hosting another successful race, our goals include encouraging runners (and their friends and family) to spend money in this former mill town that is working hard to revitalize itself -- there are so many exciting new businesses in town!

The first 300 who register or by March 1 (whichever comes first) will receive a commemorative sublimated beanie at bib pick-up from Atayne, Maine's performance outfitter; inspiring positive environmental and social change through the power of active lifestyles.
