Frost Fest is an annual winter celebration held in Bucksport during February school vacation. Activities this year will be on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the ice skating rink on Miles Lane in Bucksport.

An old fashioned ice skating party will have music, skating & dancing and will kick it off at 11am. Other activities include a snow sculpture competition brought to us by Seaboard Federal Credit Union and miniature golf in a course made of SNOW! To rent a putter and a ball is $5, under 5 years old FREE.

Phil Smith, master magician, entertains children, and adults. He entertains at homes, schools, and many other settings from Maine to Boston and beyond. Smith is a ‘kid at heart,’ which makes his magic dazzle everyone. Phil Smith of Abracadabra Productions will be at Frost Fest from 12 AM to 2 PM for Strolling interactive magical experiences.

Funds raised support the Bucksport YMCA and the Bucksport Bay Area Chamber of Commerce. All the fun will wrap up at 3pm when the snow sculptures will be judged and the winner awarded their prize!

Our Community PTO will be joining us this year and will be selling warm food and drinks. All proceeds of food and drink sales benefit the PTO who assist with the needs and wants of the students and staff throughout the school year.

We hope to provide a fun, healthy, invigorating cold weather experience for children and their families in our local communities. This event helps us demonstrate that our multi-faceted communities are active destinations for those looking for exciting and diverse activities during the winter months.

Getting Paid to Talk, Making Money with your Voice

Whether you've been told you have a great voice, had compliments on your speaking style, or use effective communication in a current profession, this workshop will give you a behind-the-scenes look at how people make money every day with their voices.

From audio books and training material, cartoons, documentaries, commercials and more, this workshop will introduce you to the growing field of voice-over. Today, opportunities for voice professionals have increased dramatically and unlike a decade ago, the range of voices cast for these opportunities continue to grow. Skilled voice professionals are more in demand than ever before.

Join us to learn what the pros look for and how to avoid many common mistakes. We'll help you avoid web-based pitfalls and instead develop an action plan designed to build lasting success close to home! We’ll discuss industry pros and cons, answer questions, and play samples from working voice professionals. We'll also give you an opportunity to record a short script under the direction of your instructor.

This seminar is fun, realistic, and a great first step for anyone interested in the voice over field.

Maine Home Sales & Values up in 2017
The Masiello Group sent us this exciting news about the Maine home sales in 2017 from Maine Listings:

"Despite tight inventory of single-family existing homes for sale at the beginning of 2017, statewide sales volume in 2018 ended in positive territory, with a 0.72 percent increase. According to Maine Listings, the median sales price (MSP) for homes sold last year reached $200,000, a 5.6 percent increase in one year. The MSP indicates that half of the homes were sold for more and half sold for less. Statewide
sales for the month of December 2017 were up 2.02 percent while the statewide MSP increased 9.19 percent to $202,000 compared to December 2016."  Read More...

Bridge the Gap Race April 8, 2018
Held annually since 2012, Bridge the Gap has quickly gained popularity as one of Eastern Maine's rites of spring!

In 2017 Crow Athletics became the newest caretakers of this important community event, and changed the course slightly; both races continue to start at Fort Knox in Prospect, and cross the stunning Penobscot Narrows Bridge. The 10-Miler tours Verona Island from west to east, while the 3-Miler follows the scenic river walk. Both races finish on Main Street in the heart of downtown Bucksport!

We have been working closely Main Street Bucksport and we are thrilled to bring this race into their friendly downtown! In addition to hosting another successful race, our goals include encouraging runners (and their friends and family) to spend money in this former mill town that is working hard to revitalize itself -- there are so many exciting new businesses in town!

The first 300 who register or by March 1 (whichever comes first) will receive a commemorative sublimated beanie at bib pick-up from Atayne, Maine's performance outfitter; inspiring positive environmental and social change through the power of active lifestyles.
