Designate yourself as an "Adoption Center" for River Duck Dash
Get a few ducks together and watch out! Imagine hundreds of them racing down a river towards a finish line where a crowd of people are cheering on their adopted ducks, hoping it will finish first! Saturday, June 30, 2018 during Orland River Day is our sixth River Duck Dash.

Hundreds of rubber ducks are "adopted" for $5.00. When you adopt a duck you will receive your certificate with your duck number on it. Each duck has a number on the bottom that corresponds to your adoption certificate. The ducks are dropped into the Narramissic River in Orland, and the first duck across the finish line wins. The grand prize is $500.00!! To encourage participation and attendees for Orland River Day, if the winner is present, you will receive a BONUS prize!

If you are a Chamber member we are hoping you will designate yourself as an "adoption center" and hold the certificates. If you can sell ten duck certificates or more we will have a very successful, fun event to bring to Orland River Day this year. Please contact us at the Bucksport Bay Area Chamber of Commerce to request your certificates, 469.6818. You will be advertised as one of the adoption centers to encourage people to come to your business.

We are excited about this event and trust you will want to be involved too! Please feel free to call or email with any questions and let us know if you are interested in being an "adoption center" and selling certificates. 207.469.6818
Pixie Harbor Hoopla in Bucksport
Calling all fairies, pirates, elves, wizards, hobbits and gnomes to Pixie Harbor Hoopla in Bucksport!

Bucksport Bay Area Chamber of Commerce brings this third year event to Bucksport this summer. Pixie Harbor Hoopla is a "magical" themed festival and a friendly uplifting fun day! Fairies & Pirates of all ages are invited to join us on the waterfront for a day of enchantment on Sunday, June 10th, 2018 from 11am to 4pm.

Dress in your finest Fairy and Pirate Costumes or come as you are!

Attendees can visit Pixie Harbor Hoopla's “Gnome Depot,” a one-stop-shop for bark, leaves, shells and other natural materials perfect for building fairy houses. Then display your creation for the day on the Bucksport Waterfront. It is said that fairy spirits reside among the trees, flowers, plants, and creatures that live in gardens. The act of building a fairy house is believed to bring good luck as well as help the plants and flowers to grow.

For more information find the event page on Facebook or website, www.bucksportbaychamber.com/pixie-harbor-hoopla contact the Bucksport Bay Area Chamber of Commerce at 469.6818 if you’d like to be a vendor or have questions about the day!

4 to 6 p.m.

I'm pretty sure it's here. Time to relax, look at fresh-mowed grass, and chill with a bottle of something cold and white. Or pink. I'm happy to say we've got a pretty good line-up from Europe this month; France, Italy, Spain and Portugal. And here to present it is our old friend Jack Scully of Easterly Wine, who lead us through the flights and answer questions and comments. Super good prices too, you'll see. Our own Denise will whip up some of her famous munchies to pair with the wines. It should all be just terrific and a great part of the three-day weekend. Hope you can come.

Chappaquiddick

PG-13

On July 18, 1969, Sen. Ted Kennedy drives his car off of a bridge on Massachusetts' Chappaquiddick Island. The accident results in the death of passenger Mary Jo Kopechne, a 28-year-old campaign strategist who worked for Kennedy.

Kennedy left the scene of the accident and didn't alert authorities for ten hours. Kopechne is believed to have been alive for at least four hours trapped in the car before she finally ran out of air. The ongoing investigation into the mysterious and scandalous events forever alters his political legacy -- and ultimately changes the course of presidential history.

IRS News
Seasonal and Part-year Workers:

Time for a “Paycheck Checkup”
If you work a seasonal or part-year job, a “paycheck checkup” can help make sure your employer is withholding the right amount of tax from your paycheck for your situation. A “paycheck checkup” is
important after changes from the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Taxpayers can use the Withholding Calculator on IRS.gov. It can help estimate income, credits, adjustments and deductions.
If you work part of the year, it’s best to check early in your employment period so your withholding is the
most accurate.

The Internal Revenue Service encourages taxpayers who typically itemized their deductions on Schedule A of the Form 1040 to use the Withholding Calculator this year to perform
a “paycheck checkup.”
People who have itemized before may be affected by changes from the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.
Taxpayers who itemize should use the IRS Withholding Calculator to make sure their employers are withholding the appropriate amount of tax from their paychecks for their financial situation.
The law changes are effective in 2018 and affect the tax returns taxpayers will file in 2019. The new law makes a number of major changes, including:
  • Limiting the deductions for state and local taxes
  • Limiting the deduction for home mortgage interest in certain cases (see IR-2018-32 for more information)
  • Excluding deductions for employee business expenses, tax preparation fees and investment expenses, including investment management fees, safe deposit box fees and investment expenses from pass-through entities
