"Wildlife"
November 23-25, 2018
drama
105 minutes
PG-13

Don't miss the blaze that Carey Mulligan ignites in "Wildlife." The British actress gives her considerable all to the role of Jeanette Brinson, a young housewife in Montana, circa 1960, who starts to unravel when her husband Jerry ( Jake Gyllenhaal) heads to the mountains 40 miles away to fight wildfires and leaves her alone to raise their 14-year-old son Joe (Ed Oxenbould). In a beautifully nuanced directing debut, actor Paul Dano mines the smallest details in Richard Ford's acclaimed 1990 novel - he and his partner Zoe Kazan wrote the emotionally-attuned script - to create a portrait of a woman who can't quite catch up with the frustration and feminist stirrings she feels inside.

Bucksport Area Child Care Center 2018 Annual Sock Drive
November 1 thru November 21, 2018

The season of Thanksgiving is upon us; a time of family and friends. Many people in our communities have little to be thankful for, and many go without basic necessities. In the hopes of easing their suffering and to help teach our children compassion and community responsibility we will start this week, our annual sock drive. We will be collecting pairs of socks to give to the Bangor Homeless Shelter on Wednesday, November 21, 2018.

We are collecting new, adult size, male or female socks. For every pair of socks your child brings in they will receive a sticker to place on our giant sock. Last year, we collected 274 pairs of socks! The folks that run the shelter were so thankful for our gift to them. They were especially thankful to provide their guests with dry, clean socks to sleep in that night. Please help us to meet or break our previous record of 274 pairs of the socks.

If you have questions you can call the center at 207-469-7623
Seaboard Federal Credit Union Sock Drive
Seaboard Federal Credit Union is collecting socks again this year for the less fortunate. They had 1,158 donations last year. Let’s work together as a community to meet their goal of 1,500! They will be collecting socks for adults, teens and children November 15 through December 15. Please consider donating new socks and help keep those in need warm this winter. They will be distributing the socks to three local shelters at the end of December.

Drop off locations are all of the Seaboard Federal Credit Union locations as well as The Grand in Ellsworth. For more information please contact SFCU 800.639.2206
IRS News
1. New tax law allows small businesses to expense more, expands bonus depreciation

In a November 15 news release, the IRS reminded small business taxpayers that changes to the tax law per the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) mean they can immediately expense more of the cost of certain business property. Many are now able to write off most depreciable assets in the year they are placed into service.

Section 179 expensing changes
A taxpayer may elect to expense all or part of the cost of any Section 179 property and deduct it in the year the property is placed in service. The new law increased the maximum deduction from $500,000 to $1 million. It also increased the phase-out threshold from $2 million to $2.5 million. These changes apply to property placed in service in taxable years beginning after December 31, 2017, and will most likely affect 2018 business tax returns filed next year.

New 100 percent, first-year ‘bonus’ depreciation
The 100 percent depreciation deduction generally applies to depreciable business assets with a recovery period of 20 years or less and certain other property. Machinery, equipment, computers, appliances and furniture generally qualify. The law also allows expensing for certain film, television, and live theatrical productions, and used qualified property with certain restrictions.

See the proposed regulations for more details.

2. Important news for U.S. residency certification applicants

A U.S. Residency Certificate is an important tool that resident individuals and corporations can use to alleviate their foreign withholding tax.

Beginning December 1, the user fee for non-individual taxpayers who file Form 8802, Application for United States Residency Certification, will increase from $85 to a flat fee of $185 per application. This increase will not affect individual taxpayer applications, which will remain $85 each.

See IRS.gov for more details.
