March 2021

To our friends,

After reflecting on a full year of the transitions we've made due to the pandemic, we continue to be so incredibly grateful to have your ongoing support.

With things looking up for our community hopefully in the near future, we are excited for our Matches to be able to safely get back together and continue the life-changing experiences for our youth. We have an exciting year ahead at our agency and look forward to the new opportunities we can conquer together.

From all of us at BBBS, we wish you and your loved ones health and safety.

Best,

Meet Big Sister Heidi & Little Sister De'Asia

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dane County is pleased to recognize Big Sister Heidi Raddatz as the Volunteer of the Month for March 2021.

Heidi had been matched with her Little Sister De’Asia since February 2020. They enjoyed going to Women’s Badger games, to the Chazen Museum and to the UW Student Union to listen to musicians play. They also went mini-golfing and enjoyed walking and going to eat downtown.

Soon after that, the pandemic hit. They had to quickly change gears and switch to meeting virtually. They wanted to remain matched regardless of the circumstances. Big Sister Heidi would drop off care packages to Little Sister De’Asia and then would FaceTime to do their nails together. They thought of different things they could do together online, but most of the time they enjoyed just chatting. Once some of the COVID-19 restrictions were lifted over the summer, they were able to meet to go on bike rides and to the apple orchard. When De’Asia was accepted into the AVID program, she and her mom invited Heidi to attend the short ceremony they had at school. Heidi was thrilled for De’Asia and accepted the invitation. Heidi encourages De’Asia to do her very best in school so that she has many opportunities in her future for college and career choices.

Big Brothers Big Sisters recognizes that staying connected with littles during a pandemic can be very challenging. We commend Heidi on all of her efforts to be there for De’Asia.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dane County is grateful to all of our volunteers who, like Heidi, are making a difference one child at a time. Congratulations to Big Sister Heidi on being our Big of the Month!

Annual Ski Event at Tyrol Basin

Last month, Bigs and Littles were able to get outside at Tyrol Basin and put their ski and snowboard skills to the test! For some Littles and Bigs, it was their first time on the slopes. Others were able to show of their skills. Either way, it was a beautiful day filled with Matches spending quality time together and they sure had a blast!
A BIG Thank You to our Wisconsin Hoofers for making this incredible event possible for our Bigs and Littles each year!
Badgers Give Back

Little Sister Ziyona had the incredible opportunity to meet the UW Women's Hockey team on a Zoom call. She got to chat with the team and ask questions, and she even got a virtual behind the scenes tour of their locker room! Ziyona had a large fan cut-out made and will eventually receive the cut-out signed by the Women's Hockey team. Ziyona had so much fun and is looking forward to being able to attend her very first Hockey Game some day in-person.
Thank you to the Badgers Give Back program and the UW Women's Hockey team for making this possible!
