MEET BIG BROTHER GERARDO &
LITTLE BROTHER ADAIR
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dane County is pleased to recognize Big Brother Gerardo Mancilla Mendoza as the Volunteer of the Month for September 2020. Big Brother Gerardo is Director of Education Administration and Leadership at Edgewood College.

Big Brother Gerardo and Little Brother Adair have been matched for three years and have taken part in many BBBS activities, including social events and Kids to Careers sessions. Gerardo and Adair enjoy going to different BBBS and community events together to learn something new.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, they have not been able to see each other much but they stay in communication by phone. Big Brother Gerardo always asks Adair how things are going in school for him and offers support and assistance when he needs it. Adair’s mother has stated that Gerardo is now like part of the family and she appreciates the care, concern and time he spends mentoring Adair. She also stated that they have a lot in common. Gerardo inspires Adair to strive for success and to go beyond what he thinks he can achieve. They also always have a fun time when they are together and can't wait until they can see each other in person again.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is very thankful for all of our Bigs, like Gerardo, who continue to be there for their Littles during these trying times.

OUR BIG HOUSE PARTY CELEBRATION

Through the ups and downs our world has faced over the past few months, we've had to get creative with our event planning this year. We turned our annual Dream BIG Gala into a free virtual event this month called The BIG House Party! We were able to virtually celebrate with our BBBS community the importance of mentoring at this crucial time in our community.

It was an evening full of positive energy, thanks to our incredible BBBS community and supporters! Our hearts are full knowing we have such an outstanding BBBS community not only in Dane County, but beyond.

Thanks to our generous supporters, we raised over $207,000!! This incredible support from our community will allow us to serve even more youth in our community as well as continuing to provide support to the Littles and families already in our program during these trying times.

THANK YOU FOR BEING A
DEFENDER OF POTENTIAL!
