JULY 2020 EDITION
Community-Based Big of the Month
Congratulations to our July Community-Based Big of the Month, John Parker!

How do I fit being a Big into my busy schedule?
"I treat it like any other priority and make time for it. I realize the importance of spending quality time with my Little and how much of an impact it makes to their life. So I make sure that we talk or hang out several times a month, whether its playing basketball, a video call, or a phone call."

What am I most proud of in my match?
"I'm proud of the changes he has made to behave better and the improvements he has made in school compared to when I first met him. He is proof that a little bit of focused time a couple of times a month makes a big impact on them."

Thank you for being a wonderful mentor John!
Site-Based Big of the Month
Congratulations to our July
Site-Based Big of the Month,
Jack McDermott!

What Does being a Big Mean to you? "Being a Big means practicing commitment. I’ve learned that my little just wants to know that he’s a priority in my life. That means going consistently to the program and finding ways to stay connected through the summer and navigating the changing schedules with the Coronavirus pandemic."

What is you favorite part about being a Big?
"My favorite part about being a big is playing basketball with my little, Izaiah, and feeling his excitement when he sees me, coming off his school bus."

Thank you for being a wonderful mentor Jack!
Many of our Community-Based Littles have been matched with their Bigs for over a decade! We wanted to celebrate our 2020 High School Graduates with a video looking back on some of our favorite match moments! Congrats, Grads!

Bosse Scholarship Winners:
Emily Harris
Harrison Rohrer
Taylor Fluid

Jill Bosse was a Big Sister who unfortunately passed away. Her family started a scholarship in her honor for our BBBS Littles. We select 3-5 graduates each year to receive a $2,500 scholarship. There are lots of requirements and have to maintain a high GPA to continue to receive it each year but it's extremely helpful to our awesome Littles!
County Highlights
Program Coordinator, Jodi Griesman, delivered donated masks and hand-soap to Parents and Littles and encouraged continued virtual contact for all matches at this time.
High School Bigs is an after school mentoring program where high school students meet weekly one on one with their elementary school "Little". Mentors/Bigs spend part of the time helping with school work, reading and math and the rest of the time they have fun, build relationship and social skills, and support the growth of their Little Brother or Little Sister. Check out Cabarrus Big Brothers Big Sisters End of The Year Review.
SAVE THE DATE: August 5th, 2019
Stay tuned for more information! Our first ever virtual breakfast, you don't want to miss this.
We have the opportunity to distribute masks to our families thanks to the generosity of Restore Global and Demi Knight Clark. Restore Global provides help for non-profits by helping reduce expenses. This saves our program staff time and allows them to focus more on supporting our mission than funding the program events. Demi Knight Clark is the founder of She Built This City (SBTC). SBTC aims to empower girls 9-17 & women choosing to enter the workforce with construction trade skills & fearless maker spaces.
Thank you, Restore Global & Demi Knight Clark!
GOLD STANDARD AWARD
This year Big Brothers Big Sister Central Carolinas received the Gold Standard Award. Congratulations to the staff for all their hard work, this wouldn't have been possible without you all!
Congratulations Board of Directors!

Big Brothers Big Sisters of America recognized BBBSCC on June 26 during its Annual National Conference, as the Robert M. Kommerstad Boards of the Year.

We are beyond grateful for all of their hard work, commitment, and passion around our mission to help young people who are facing difficult challenges in their lives, be empowered to realize their full potential with the caring support of a mentor.

Hane Tarris, thank you so much for your leadership, board service, and focus on excellence. So well deserved. Everyone has worked so hard and never let the tough times get us down or get in our way of fulfilling our mission to young people, their families, and our volunteers.

Thank you, Hane, and your Team!
How to Support
We need your help! Cancelling our Big Breakfast could mean that 215 children do not get matched with their caring adult mentor or Big this year. With your help, we can continue change the lives of children for the better, forever. A gift of $10/month can match a deserving children with their mentor. Thank you for your support during this challenging time for our organization and for our community.
