As we prepare for our final days before we welcome our students back to school, we hope that all parents were able to log on to our Home Access Center and find their child's homeroom teacher for the year. If you need help with this, please contact our Main Office next week.

Our entire staff will be back next week to prepare for our first day with students.

Prior to the first day of school, our annual Supply Drop-Off will be held on Tuesday, August 23 from 2:00 pm-6:00 pm. Teachers will ONLY be in their classrooms from 2:00-3:00 pm. Families are welcome to tour the building or ask the office staff questions during this time.

On Thursday, August 25 we will welcome our students to the 2022-2023 school year. An email was sent out to kindergarten parents this afternoon indicating which staggered start day their child will attend.

We encourage parents to use the mode of transportation that the child will use throughout the school year. With our new parking lot procedures, there is not a parent wait area. As soon as students are dropped off or exit the bus, they will enter the school. We will be assisting our youngest learners (kindergarten-2nd grade) to the classrooms and staff will be present to help any new or returning 3rd-6th graders who need help with finding classrooms.

Here are a few reminders for the first week of school:

  • Our staff will be outside daily at 8:20 am.
  • Students arriving by car must wait in the car until staff dismisses them from the car.  Cars may only enter from Bristol Bay Drive by turning right.
  • Students walking must wait by the yellow gates on the south side of the school. Our staff will direct them to the door of entry.
  • Our physical education classes may be outside (weather pending). Please make sure your child has appropriate shoes for physical education class. Although the days are warm, morning classes may be a little chilly so pack a sweatshirt/jacket for your child. In addition, most of our students have two recess periods per day.
  • If your child is ill, please make sure to call the office before 9:00 am to report the absence.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone later this week. Should you need anything, feel free to call or email Mr. Crosby, our assistant principal, or me.

Thank you,

Dr. Spallasso

We will have the building open for supply drop-off on Tuesday, August 23 from 2:00 pm-6:00 pm. Our staff will be in classrooms and around the building from 2:00-3:00 pm. After 3:00 pm, staff will not be present, and classrooms will be open to exploring. If you cannot make the supply drop-off, your child is welcome to bring his/her supplies during the first week of school.

Kindergarten Staggered Start

We are so excited to be launching our full-day kindergarten program. To help our students with this transition, the district will be providing a staggered start for all kindergarten students. This will allow our kindergarten students experience the new classroom routines and expectations with a smaller number of students in attendance the first two days. During the staggered start, students will take their regular transportation to and from school whether that be via bus, walker, or parent drop-off/pick-up.

Teachers will have half of their students on August 25, 2022 and the other half will on August 26, 2022. Emails were sent at 3:00 pm today about the day the students should attend. The first full day for all kindergarten students together will be on Monday, August 29, 2022.

4th Grade Classes

Parents may have noticed that our 4th-grade students have a different ELA, math, and homeroom teacher.  In order to support our learners best this year, we are working to move our students around during the day.  Our 4th-grade teachers are working together and are excited to work with ALL our students this year!

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

General Information

  • There are five methods of drop-off and pick-up at Bristol Bay Elementary School: car line, walker, SAFE, daycare transportation, and Septran bussing.

  • The front parking lot is for buses, Septran or daycare, and for staff. From 8:35 am-3:00 pm, parents may use the parking lot to drop off items at school, students arriving late to school, or students dismissing early.

  • At 8:15 am, the gates on the southwest side of the parking lot will open for two lanes of parent drop-off traffic. Students must remain in the car until staff dismisses them.

  • Half-Day Kindergarten Parents may pick up their child in the front of the building by Door #23.

  • At 3:10 pm the gates on the southwest side of the parking lot will open for two lanes of parent pick-up traffic.

  • Parents that are picking up students may only use the car line. There is no meet and greet area for car riders.

  • Walkers will arrive and be dismissed by the yellow gate near the gym in front of the school.

  • Please pay close attention to the staff guiding traffic while on, entering, and/or exiting school property.

  • It is illegal to pass a stopped school bus with the stop arm out.

BBES Procedures for the Morning

Buses: All busses will enter the southeast entrance and park in the front of the school (#5 on the map). Students will be dismissed by a staff member and enter by Door 23 or Door 1 depending on grade level.

Walkers: Walkers can enter the school and wait by the yellow gates near the gym area in the front of the school (#6 on the map). Parents may wait with students at this grassy area until 8:20 am. A staff member will direct students to the building and students will enter at Door 2 by the gym.

Car Riders (Parent Drop-Off): Cars will enter the southwest gates. All cars MUST enter from Bristol Bay Drive. Bertram Drive is where the buses and staff cars will be entering. Gates will be opened at 8:15 am (#1 on the map). Cars form two lines and will pull up to the stop area (#2 on the map). At 8:20 am staff will be present for arrival. Cars will be released by a staff member to enter the parking zones. Staff will hold red flags to indicate it is unsafe for students to exit cars. Staff will hold white flags when it is safe for students to exit the car. Once all students have exited, the cars will move forward (#3 on the map). Cars will need to merge from two lines to one line to prepare to exit the lot. Cars need to stop by the kindergarten front area because there may be bus traffic in the front of the school. Cars will then exit by the southeast (#4 on the map). Students will enter Doors 13 and 20 in the back of the school.

Daycare Buses: Daycare buses will enter with the other buses and can move to the far south of the lot. Students will be dismissed from here and enter Door 2 by the gym.

SAFE: Parents may use the front lot to drop off for SAFE. Students should be at SAFE by 8:00 am.

Bikes/Skate Boards/Scooters/ Hover Boards: Both students and parents wishing to ride one of these to and from school are welcome to do so. We ask that once on school grounds you walk instead of ride. There is a bike rack in front of the school. This helps keep all students, parents, and staff safe in more congested areas.

BBES Procedures for the Afternoon

Buses: Buses will park in the front of the school (#5 on the map). Staff will assist students in getting on the correct bus. Students riding a bus will exit Door #1.

Walkers: Walkers will exit through Door #2. Parents should wait in the grassy area by the yellow gates (#6 on the map).

Car Riders (Parent Pick-Up): Cars will enter the southwest gates. Gates will be opened at 3:10 pm (#1 on the map). Cars form two lines and will pull up to the stop area (#2 on the map). At 3:33 pm staff will be present for dismissal. Cars will be released by a staff member to enter the parking zones. Students will look for their car. Parents may use a car sign with their student name to help staff get students to the correct car. Staff will hold up a white flag when the line can move forward. Please encourage your child to know who is picking them up. If a student is running late in the building, we may ask a car to pull around to the back of the line so as not to hold up the rest of the line. Once all students are safely in the car, the cars will move forward (#3 on the map). Cars will need to merge from two lines to one line to prepare to exit the lot. Cars need to stop by the kindergarten front area because there may be bus traffic in the front of the school. Cars will then exit by the southeast (#4 on the map).

Daycare Buses: Daycare buses will enter with the other buses and can move to the far south of the lot. Daycare students will meet in the gym and staff will escort them to the correct daycare bus.

SAFE: Parents picking up from SAFE will enter the front of the lot (after 3:50 pm) and use the system SAFE has for pick-up.

Late Students and Early Pick-Up: If your child is late to school, please call the main office. The office staff will be waiting for your child to arrive at school. If you need to pick your child up from school early, please send a note to the homeroom teacher. Once you arrive, please come to the front area of the school and ring the buzzer. We will have you wait in our vestibule, and you will need to show your ID and sign your child out of school.

Lunch Information

During the last two years the federal government provided free school lunches to all families that wanted to participate or had the need for the service. This year, 2022/2023, Yorkville CUSD 115 will return to participating in the USDA National School Lunch Program (NSLP). The NSLP is a federally-assisted meal program that provides nutritionally balanced, low-cost or free lunches to children each school day.

The NSLP uses specific Income Eligibility Guidelines to determine eligibility for free and reduced price meals or free milk for students. Parents/Guardians interested in completing an online application to receive meal benefits for their children, may do so starting August 1st.
