The Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School faculty and staff are excited to welcome our students and family back to school for the 2018-19 school year. This will be an exciting year on our campus as students will have an increased access to technology, and we will be focusing on improving our students’ development in the areas of social, emotional, health, and wellness through our Bee “Colony” advisory periods (18 meetings throughout the school year). We also look forward to welcoming the class of 2022 to BBHHS as they begin their high school careers and continue the BBHHS tradition of excellence..
In preparation for the school year, we are sharing a wide range of information and important dates below. Ninth Grade “Freshmentoring - 2018” Orientation and Chromebook Distribution
Senior BBHHS National Honor Society Students serve as mentors for 4-5 incoming freshmen. There will be sessions scheduled throughout the year—but the first, and most important, is scheduled for August 15th, at 1:30 p.m. at the high school auditorium. Freshmen will meet their mentors, receive and review their class schedules, find their lockers, take building tours, and participate in mentoring activities until dismissal and Chromebook Distribution at 2:30 p.m. Students should bring

New Students, Freshmen, and Parent Evening Information Session
The BBHHS administration and counseling team will host an orientation program for the incoming freshmen and students new to the high school (and parents) on
Wednesday August 15th, at 7:00 pm
in the auditorium (the south end of the building—to the left end as you drive in from Mill Road). Parents are invited and encouraged to attend with their student(s). Following the orientation program, students and their families are invited to tour the building, wear comfortable shoes because our building is quite large—approximately 300,000 square feet!

7:20 a.m., on Monday, August 20, 2018

***We will post Homeroom locations in the main lobby of the building. Students will be able to access their schedules via ProgressBook starting on August 13th and will receive a hard copy in Homeroom.
School Counseling and Schedules
Student’s schedules should correspond with the course verification email sent in June. Building a master schedule is a difficult and complex task. We work hard to have a schedule that meets our students’ course requests while maintaining optimal class sizes. This does not afford us the opportunity to make schedule changes for teacher preference, to provide early dismissal, or to align with friend’s schedules. Any student with a significant scheduling concern/omission should call to make an appointment with their school counselor.

School fees will be distributed with the 1
st
report card and are due according to the courses that the student has chosen. All students enrolled in AP classes must have their fees paid by December 15th so that exams can be ordered. Please put the student’s name on the payment.
Extra/Co-Curricular Fees
The pay-to-participate fee schedule is in place for the 2018-19 school year. For your convenience, we’ve posted the participation form on our school website. Remember that students are denied participation until the activity fee has been collected!
Technology (School Issued Chromebooks and Netbooks)
All Ninth graders will receive their school issued Chromebook at the conclusion of “Freshmentoring” on Wednesday August 15th at 1:30 p.m. Students should bring
this form
to sign out their Chromebook for the year. There is a $30 insurance fee and a $25 deductible per incident for the Chromebooks that will be added to students’ school fees.
All tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grade students will sign out a netbook in homeroom on the first day of school. These devices were previously on carts used in individual classrooms. In an effort to provide students with more access to technology to complete school work, access online textbooks, and stay organized they will have the netbooks for the entire school year. The netbooks have been reimaged with software that has them running like Chromebooks, which extends their battery life and improves their speed. Students that prefer to use their personal computer or Chromebook instead of signing out a school issued device can sign off indicating that they will bring their own device to school each day. All students are expected to use either a school issued device or their own on a daily basis. Please

School Supplies and Summer Reading Assignments

At the high school level students have varied schedules with a multitude of options regarding classes and teachers. As such, BBHHS does not maintain a “master list” of school supplies and the previous link is to be used as a guide to purchasing supplies for the school year. It is safe to expect that each academic class will require writing utensils, paper, and folders/binders to stay organized.
CVCC Students
Cuyahoga Valley Career Center opens for classes on Wednesday August 22nd. Career Center students who are scheduled to attend
morning sessions
are to board the bus in front of the high school. Buses will return to the high school at 11:00 a.m. Students attending
afternoon sessions
are to board the bus in front of the high school by 11:15 a.m. Buses will return to the middle school at 2:45 p.m. To drive to the Career Center, you’ll need to complete a CVCC application in addition to the BBHHS application (We discount your BBHHS parking permit by half, from $100.00 down to $50.00).
Transportation/Parking/Driving to School
Seniors, Juniors & Sophomores are eligible to drive to school and are required to register their automobiles and purchase a parking permit (cost $100.00) from the Main Office.
The procedure to apply for a permit is as follows:
Return the completed
registration form
to the office including a photocopy of your valid driver’s license, a self-addressed stamped envelope and a check or money order made out to BBHHS.
CVCC half-day and CCP students pay $50.00 for parking permits.
Permits will be mailed to your home
using the self-addressed stamped envelope during the week of August 13th. Please review the rules and regulations, and then keep the parking permit in a safe place until school starts—replacements will cost an additional $50.00.

Purchasing Lunch or Breakfast
The 2018-19 ‘Special of the Day’ lunch price remains between $3.00 and $4.00. Milk prices also remain at $.50. Breakfast will continue to be served between 7:00 a.m. - 7:15 a.m. and during the first 2 periods if you have a study hall in the cafeteria. Those students who were on Free and Reduced Lunch for the previous year are eligible for the same benefits until October 1
st
of this year. The application form is part of the Registration Gateway electronic information that parents need to complete. Parents can go online at
myschoolaccount.com
and follow the prompts to monitor purchases and put money into the accounts. This year students will have access to use their lunch accounts with new vending machines that are "Smart Snack" compliant. Parents need to have their student's ID number which is the 8 or 9 digit student number that is on their schedules and report cards.
Student Planners
Students were given an opportunity to order a student planner last spring, these will be delivered to students in homeroom on the first day of school. You can still order one for mid-September delivery by completing

Student-Parent Handbook
All students and families are expected to review the
Student-Parent Handbook
and students will sign a paper indicating that they understand they are responsible to follow the rules, expectations, and guidelines stated in the handbook during homeroom on the first day of school.
