Back to School Transition Tip from our MDT Team
Worried about drop off? Some separation anxiety is normal during big transitions. It shows that children have social awareness skills.
Here are some tips to ease the transition:
· Get to know the teachers so you can show confidence in front of your child.
· Help your child feel excited about school by talking about the routines, new friends, fun toys, going to the playground, etc.
· Share a family photo to display on the classroom family tree.
· Explain when you will come back, or if another caretaker will pick up that day. You can say, “I’ll pick you up after your nap.” Or, “Grandma will pick you up today after your snack.”
· Create a good-bye routine such as a quick hug or kiss. Don’t sneak out or cry!
