Education, Action & Community Impact: Looking Ahead to World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

As we prepare for our signature event—World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) on June 15—this month’s newsletter highlights exciting opportunities to deepen our learning and strengthen our collective efforts in fostering safe, inclusive communities where older adults are valued and protected. From registering for the upcoming Provincial Learning Event with the BC Human Rights Commissioner to signing up for the National WEAAD webinar, now is the perfect time to engage in meaningful conversations around the rights and well-being of vulnerable adults in the province.

We’re also celebrating inspiring community leaders, the ongoing work of our Community Response Networks (CRNs), the importance of intergenerational connections, and National Caregiver Month. Together, let's build momentum as we approach WEAAD and continue creating communities where all adults feel secure, valued, and supported.

Community Response Networks (CRNs) across BC have introduced a range of compassionate initiatives designed to support older adults’ safety, connection, and well-being. These projects have included scam recovery sessions, craft and wellness kits, workshops on health and emergency planning, caregiver support activities, and education on risks like extreme clutter. Each initiative has helped reduce isolation, promote self-care, and build awareness of abuse and neglect.
