July: Gone Fishin’

The dog days of summer are upon us, bringing hot days and long evenings. It’s time to take a breather, schedule vacations and maybe grab some time by a lake or ocean. Here at BC CRN, we are slowing down, taking a newsletter break until September and planning great fall programming. Check the website in August for news of our first fall Provincial Learning Event.

This month, we’re bringing you stories about National Indigenous History Month, Pride events across the regions, highlights from WEAAD and more. Enjoy your summer!

CRNs IN THE COMMUNITY

CRNs Launch Into Summer with Tours, Talks and Take-Away

June is the busiest month on the calendar for CRNs across the province. Its National Indigenous History Month and National Indigenous Peoples Day, and the beginning of Pride Season across Canada. There were also countless events and activities around the province to spotlight seniors’ issues.

Aging and Driving Workshop in Saanich Peninsula

If you were no longer able to drive, would you know how to maintain your independence and navigate other ways of getting around? The Aging and Driving workshop had speakers and resources to equip seniors with safe driving tips and options for alternative transportation.

FEATURED STORIES

How Will You Spend National Indigenous Peoples Day?

It’s beautiful that National Indigenous Peoples Day lands on June 21 each year, the summer solstice. This day is the beginning of berry picking season, powwows and many significant gatherings for Indigenous People across Canada. Indigenous organizations, sometimes with non-Indigenous partners, host events that celebrate and share their culture. A growing number of nations and urban organizations invite the general public to join in the celebrations, offering great chances to learn more about local customs and stories, enjoy dancing and taste traditional foods.

UPCOMING EVENTS
We’re taking a break from events over the summer and look forward to seeing you at the September Provincial Learning Event. Check the website in August for more information!
