HPAI Case Control Study

Broiler Participation Needed!

The Ministry of Agriculture is conducting a Case Control Study on Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI),

and your participation is vital.

Fourty-three broiler farms have already been selected as impacted or randomly chosen control farms. However, the Ministry is encouraging broader participation to strengthen the reliability of the study. If you have not yet been contacted, we invite you to take part.

The greater the number of participants, the stronger and more actionable the results will be.

This study will help identify practical, science-based strategies to reduce the risk of future HPAI outbreaks. These may include the use of innovative tools and technologies. The study is on a tight timeline, with the goal of sharing preliminary findings with the industry

by early September 2025.



To support this initiative, we strongly encourage your participation by August 15, 2025. A further information package can be found here, or the survey can be accessed directly: Start Survey here.

In support of disease prevention efforts, the Province has advised that a limited pool of funding (up to 75 applicants) will be made available to all feather and duck producers. Eligible producers can apply for up to $30,000 in reimbursement for tools and technology such as:

• MERV 16+ or HEPA air filters
• Antimicrobial filters
• UV lighting
• Electrostatic precipitators (ESPs)
• Positive pressure upgrades (when combined with another tool)

To be eligible for this funding, producers must:

1. Participate in the Case Control Study
2. Agree to provide data, if requested, to help evaluate the effectiveness of the implemented tools
3. Ensure installation of eligible items occurs between January and November 7, 2025

Update from the BC Agriculture Council

We’re pleased to share that government communications has approved the launch of a new webpage dedicated to the Premier’s Task Force on the Agriculture and Food Economy. This page will provide timely updates and recommendations following each task force meeting.

Unlike traditional task forces, this one is structured to deliver recommendations by topic throughout the 11-month process—rather than waiting for a final report at the end.

BCAC Member Associations will continue to be actively consulted and kept informed as the work progresses.
