Results of the

BC COP Judicial Review in BCCMB Favour

The Supreme Court of British Columbia has upheld the BC Farm Industry Review Board’s (BC FIRB) decision regarding the BC Chicken Cost of Production (COP) formula, dismissing the judicial review application filed by the Primary Processors Association of BC (PPPABC). This ruling confirms that the current BC COP formula will remain in place. The full decision is available on our website under Publications –> Governance.

Looking ahead, the BC Chicken COP survey data is scheduled for an update in 2025. Growers will soon be selected to participate in a survey as part of this process, with the updated COP survey information expected to be applied to the COP live price in the A-200 allocation period.

The NTT funding is now open for applications!

The Novel Tools and Technology for Prevention of HPAI Pilot Program (NTT) through the IAF is now open for growers to apply to Stream 1, from August 12 to 29, 2025. Click here to get started.

Stream 1 of the program will evaluate new ways to reduce the impacts of Avian Flu, focusing on farms in the BC Lower Mainland.

Funding is for up to 75 feather and duck producers.
Growers can apply for up to $30,000 in reimbursement for tools and tech including filters, lighting, precipitators, etc.
This is not a cost-shared program; growers aren't required to also contribute funds (unless costs exceed their grant amount).
Eligibility includes: joining the Case Control Study, sharing data, and installing eligible items by November 7, 2025.

Stream 2 will focus on research, monitoring, and evaluation, with a max funding amount of $50,000 per project. It opens August 26, 2025.

Michael Prins

Manager of Communications

The BC Chicken Marketing Board welcomes Michael Prins

as its Manager of Communications.

In this new role, he will serve BC’s chicken industry as the Board’s storyteller, messenger for complex issues, and strategist for brand and public relations. Practically, he will contribute to steady messaging, policy release, external media, creative content,

and other special projects.

For Mike, this follows 25 years in the charity and international development nonprofit world, advocating for education and food security. He’s passionate about building community and crafting plucky, engaging communication. Originally from a family farm in central Alberta, Mike and his family have made Langley, BC their home for the last many years. His claim to fame is being selected at a Vancouver Giants hockey game to compete in an on-ice foot race while wearing an over-sized chicken suit, and winning.

Update from the BC Agriculture Council

We’re pleased to share that government communications has approved the launch of a new webpage dedicated to the Premier’s Task Force on the Agriculture and Food Economy. This page will provide timely updates and recommendations following each task force meeting.

Unlike traditional task forces, this one is structured to deliver recommendations by topic throughout the 11-month process—rather than waiting for a final report at the end.

BCAC Member Associations will continue to be actively consulted and kept informed as the work progresses.
