A-194 Pricing Update

The live price for A-194 will be posted by February 7, 2025.

Key changes to the A-194 pricing order include:

  • Carryover Adjustment: A one-time increase of 1.4 cents/kg will be applied to the live price due to a correction from the A-193 Posted Live Price error.
  • COP Phase-In: The phase-in of the COP (Cost of Production) adjustment will reach 83.33% of the transition between the new COP and the previous interim formula.
  • Annual FCR Update: The Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR) update, as outlined in the Long-Term Pricing Decision, will apply. This will reduce the COP price, with details provided in the pricing order.
  • Annual Volume Update: The update to production volumes, as outlined in the Long-Term Pricing Decision, will also reduce the COP price. Specifics will be included in the pricing order.
  • Producer Margin Adjustment: Changes to the Chicken Farmers of Ontario (CFO) producer margin will affect the live price formula through the interim formula, which will be phased out for A-195.
  • Modular Loading Cost Removal: CFO modular loading costs will be permanently removed from the interim formula calculation, with no impact on final pricing.

More details to come.

Removal of Catching Costs from the

BC Live Price - BC FIRB Prior Approval Decision

On January 10, 2025 BCFIRB released its decision to the Chicken Board’s prior approval request for the removal of catching costs from the BC Live Price effective in quota period A-194. BCFIRB after conducting its own submission process and analysis did not approve the BCCMB’s request to remove the catching cost from the

BC live price in A-194.

BFIRB directed the Board to:

  • Continue to implement the long-term pricing formula in accordance with the BCFIRB May 22, 2024 decision.
  • Continue to meet the monitoring and reporting obligations in paragraph 104 of the BCFIRB May 22, 2024 decision.

The full decision can be found here.

Unregulated Production

A few weeks ago, growers received a memo regarding the signing of BC101 Contracts. It is timely to provide a clear reminder about the purpose and requirements of a BC101 contract.

The BC101 contract is designed to accurately document the quota allocation and use of grower allotments between licensed growers, processors, and hatcheries. If birds are slaughtered and sold to multiple processors, used for home consumption, or custom slaughtered, these details must be specified in the contract.

Licensed growers are reminded that all regulated products must be processed at BC Chicken Board-licensed facilities, reported to the Board, and levies remitted promptly. Any sale of chicken by a quota holder that is not authorized by the Board is a direct violation of the Board's General Orders. These General Orders outline the requirements for custom slaughter and BC101 Contracts, and growers must ensure their Quota Production Update (QPU) is accurate and compliant.

Under the Chicken Farmers of Canada Animal Care Program, birds that are not loaded for transport must be euthanized within 8 hours or provided with appropriate care. Selling these birds outside the regulatory framework and supply management system is strictly prohibited.
