New Year, Fresh Audit

It's now 2026, so you'll need your annual audit for this year. Field Service Representative (Auditors) will be reaching out by email to schedule your audit, which will likely take place within the anniversary month of your last audit.

Email inspection@bcchicken.ca with questions

or to get started with booking your 2026 audit.

Alert: Corrective Actions

Take note and take action on two important standards that, if unmet, result in corrective actions related to your annual audit:

1. The use of KED tools will result in a corrective action. Its use for euthanasia in poultry is no longer acceptable practice, due to animal welfare concerns from the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association.

2. You must have recent proof of a water quality test as part of your audit. Field Service Reps report that the most common corrective action is failure to complete an annual water test and meet water quality standards.

Physical Barriers at Barn Entry to be Mandatory

This past December, CFC Directors decided to increase the minimum entrance requirements for barns, making physical barriers (e.g. bench or a step-over) mandatory between the Controlled Access Zone and the Restricted Area.

All Boards are notifying growers in advance of a firm implementation date, encouraging farms to have this in place prior to the next high-risk period for HPAI, which begins in spring 2026 with Period A-201.

Temporary Changes to Under- and Over- Marketing Sleeves

EFFECTIVE A-199, A-200, A-201

The Board is actively pursuing solutions to challenges regarding hatching egg and chick supply due to the HPAI outbreak and other natural events. (If shortages occur, there is no direct compensation for this complication.)

To provide some relief, the Board is implementing temporary changes to the Under- and Over- Marketing levies. These will stand as temporary amendments to the General Orders for Period A-199, A-200, and A-201.

(We are currently in A-199, which is Nov 16,2025 - Jan 10, 2026)

Census of Agriculture

COMING IN MAY 2026

Statistics Canada recently announced its upcoming Census of Agriculture. Its data informs policy, strengthens competitiveness, supports trade decisions, and helps farm organizations plan for the future.

In May 2026, all farm operators will receive a mailed invitation with a Secure Access Code to complete the census online. Participation is required by law, and all information is protected under the Statistics Act. The 2026 questionnaire is shorter, faster, and tailored to each operation.
