Red Biosecurity and Indoor Housing Order

IN EFFECT

Following the confirmation of HPAI in two poultry flocks in Alberta, the BC Poultry Association announced on September 10 the shift to Red Biosecurity.

Furthermore, the BC’s Chief Veterinary Officer announced an Indoor Housing Order for all commercial poultry production in the province.

Under and Over Marketing Temporary Changes

CLOSED

In June 2025, the BCCMB announced revised temporary changes to Under and Over Marketing Sleeves, in response to a shortage in chick supply. This was in effect until the end of A-197 (Sept 20) to provide some relief and allow the industry to stabilize. Beginning A-198 (Sept 21) normal policy resumes:

Under marketing carryforward adjustment returns from 10% to 6%.
Over marketing adjustments (General Orders sections 27.2 and 27.6) are no longer suspended.

Best Practice on your Broiler Farm

Biosecurity Must Be Everyone’s Priority

“Your farm, your rules.” All services and visitors to your farm should follow strict biosecurity practices, too—do not assume they already understand them.

It’s important that you set clear expectations and ensure standards are followed, particularly by crews during chick placement and live haul.

This can be as easy as communicating expectations in advance, clear and bold signage, and being present with all visitors.

Broiler Barns for Broilers Only

Here’s a friendly reminder: your barns are registered to grow broiler chickens, specifically (General Orders Parts 3 and 33). Before using your valuable barn space for anything else—including other poultry or commodity—you must notify the Board and deregister your barn(s).

Contact your field service reps (auditors) with your questions, to give an update on your barn, or for steps to deregister.
