The Canadian leg of the Global Girls' Game featured one game from each of 11 of Hockey Canada's branches. In B.C., the 2026 Global Girls' Game was played between the U15 AA South Valley Havoc and the U15 AA South Coast Riptide of the Pacific Coast Elite Hockey League at Scotia Barn in Burnaby.

Small Ice, Big Development

Hockey Canada and its members are rolling out a new U9 Half-Ice Educational Awareness Campaign designed to promote the benefits of hockey development on smaller ice surfaces.

The initiative aims to strengthen understanding and confidence in U9 half-ice hockey. The campaign works to shift the narrative from “Small ice is less hockey” to “Small ice is the fastest path to becoming a better, happier player.”

The campaign focuses on:

  • Educating without lecturing
  • Normalizing half-ice as the development standard at U9
  • Reinforcing fun, engagement, and skill development
  • Myth-busting common misconceptions
  • Aligning national, provincial, and local voices around one clear message

Buddy Check for Jesse

The program can help provide coaches with resources to facilitate supportive team environments, reducing mental health stigma in the hockey community.

Over the past seven years, numerous associations and coaches have participated in organizing Buddy Check events, which typically include Coaches' Chats designed to help athletes discuss mental health in a safe space. Players also receive green Buddy Check swag as a symbol of solidarity, making the initiative both impactful and a way to promote well-being in the sport.
