Women and Girls' Events

Looking to make a difference this fall? Support women and girls' hockey by hosting an Esso Fun Day or an event for World Girls' Ice Hockey Weekend (WGIHW) to help grow the game in a fun and inclusive way.

You've got two more days to apply to host a WGIHW event as applications close September 5!

Esso Fun Days

Applications are open for minor hockey associations to host an Esso Fun Day in their community during the 2025-26 season. The goal of these events is to introduce beginners to the game of hockey in a fun, positive and welcoming environment at NO COST!

Please note that the application process has changed. All Esso Fun Day applications and registrations must now be submitted through the Hockey Canada Registry (HCR). This will provide a more streamlined and efficient experience for associations.

World Girls' Ice Hockey Weekend

The IIHF's World Girls' Ice Hockey Weekend is back and it's your last chance to submit an application to host an event as applications close on September 5!

WGIHW is aimed to have events that recruit, retain and engage players, coaches, officials and fans through grassroots programming led by girls' hockey associations, minor hockey associations and communities.

All WGIHW applications must be submitted through through the Hockey Canada Registry (HCR). Any Districts or MHAs interested in hosting an event have until September 5, 2025, to submit an application for their event through the HCR.

From Grants to Grins

BC Hockey provided TriPort Minor Hockey Association (MHA) with a grant to host a try-hockey event for women and girls. With this grant, TriPort MHA held their second annual North Island Women and Girls' Hockey Camp this summer.

Between July 4-6 and 11-13, TriPort MHA hosted a total of 50 girls between U11-U18 levels. They participated in eight on-ice sessions and were able to take advantage of some jerseys and swag provided by BC Hockey.

BC Hockey is still accepting applications for women and girls' funding initiatives. Click the button below to get more info on grants and apply.

National Events Around The Corner

BC Hockey’s Program of Excellence is gearing up for a couple of major events this fall. These events offer young athletes a chance to showcase their talent on a national stage and measure themselves against the best in their age group.

2025 National Women's U18 Championship

Team BC will travel to Mount Pearl and Conception Bay South, Newfoundland and Labrador, for the 2025 U18 Women’s National Championship taking place from November 2-8, 2025.

They will go for gold after taking home bronze in 2023 and 2024. Team BC will face off against seven provincial and regional teams from across Canada: Alberta, Atlantic, Manitoba, Ontario Blue, Ontario Red, Quebec, and Saskatchewan.

2025 WHL Cup

Team BC is setting its focus on claiming the WHL Cup as they get ready to head to the Marchant Crane Centrium in Red Deer, Alberta.

The team will face off against rivals from Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan, all vying for the championship title. Beyond the competition for the top spot, players will also have the chance to catch the eye of the numerous scouts.

BC Hockey Selected for Same Game Challenge

BC Hockey is excited to be chosen by Canadian Women & Sport to take part in the Same Game Challenge!

This seven-month program will give BC Hockey the tools and resources we need to make hockey more inclusive for girls, women, and gender-diverse players. Through this challenge, we’ll be able to get different perspectives and connect with other organizations to learn what works, where we can improve, and how we can create a more welcoming environment for everyone who wants to play.

We’re looking forward to using everything we learn to help grow the game and get more women and girls involved in hockey!

Buddy Check For Jesse: Book Your Session

Buddy Check for Jesse is an organization founded in memory of Jesse Short-Gershman by his father, Dr. Stu Gershman, and aims to foster meaningful conversations about mental health among youth hockey players. The program can help provide coaches with resources to facilitate supportive team environments, reducing mental health stigma in the hockey community.

Over the past six years, numerous associations and coaches have participated in organizing Buddy Check events, which typically include Coaches' Chats designed to help athletes discuss mental health in a safe space. Players also receive green Buddy Check swag as a symbol of solidarity, making the initiative both impactful and a way to promote well-being in the sport.
