Message from our Executive Director

Fall always comes with fond memories of summer fun and a tinge of regret as we watch the colours of the leaves change and leave another summer behind. The BC Hospitality Foundation ( BCHF) heads into the second half of 2016 with record numbers of beneficiary requests. We are very glad to see that more of our industry knows about us and hope to be able to keep up with the demand.

We also look back on the last six months with gratitude. It is comforting to know that individuals  and companies all  over the province continue to support the efforts of the Foundation. Whether you held a golf tournament, raised money through employee payroll deduction or donated proceeds from your wishing well (just to name a few) we could not be more grateful. That is best said directly from the wife of one of our beneficiaries who wrote us recently to say, "We can't thank you all enough for this assistance, and appreciate it from the bottom of our hearts. Thank you very much." The BCHF could not have supported this individual without all of our generous donors. Thank you!

Rowena Veylan,
Executive Director

Beneficiary Update

Our Beneficiaries are always very thankful

One of the most important things we do as a Foundation is offer last resort financial assistance to those in our industry that need it urgently. So far this year, we've supported 26 individuals with over $86,000 ranging from a restaurant manager in Vancouver Island to a food truck owner in Vancouver and to a room attendant in Langford.

The BCHF knows that there are many people out there that could use our assistance but we need your help to reach them. Please join our efforts in spreading awareness through our industry!

Pat Gaudet.
Pat Gaudet Memorial Scholarship announced

Our unique Industry Scholarships are given to hospitality workers who want their children to follow in their footsteps. One of them was recently named the Pat Gaudet Memorial Scholarship, in honour of a fallen hospitality veteran. You can read more about his story HERE.

The BCHF now gives out upwards of $25,000 in scholarships every year.

Signature Events
Our golf tournaments raise critical funds

Our 10th anniversary Vancouver Golf Tournament and 5 th annual Victoria Golf Tournament raised more than $104,000 which will directly support this year's beneficiaries and scholarship winners. We cannot thank our sponsors, volunteers, donors and golfers enough!

We could not do these golf tournaments without the help of dedicated volunteers and we are actively recruiting for both tournaments. If you are interested in joining a golf committee in either Vancouver or Victoria, please contact Rowena at  rowena@bchospitalityfoundation.com.

On the Road...

Meet the team at great hospitality events

We're grateful for the continued support of  Brewery & the Beast, who have chosen us as their charitable partner since the festival of beer and meat first launched. This year, our volunteers were on hand in Vancouver selling raffle tickets for some fabulous prizes.

Our Executive Director, Rowena Veylan was recently asked to attend an employee-only wellness session so that she could help spread the word of the BCHF to its entire team.

On Sunday, August 27, BCHF was the beneficiary of the A&W Family Fun Day during the Vancouver Canadians game at Nat Bailey Stadium. Our volunteer team made 1,000 root beer floats by donation and raised in excess of $1,700. Thank you to Board members Dana and Kurtis and all the volunteers who were there to make this happen!

This year's annual TOTA Golf Tournament on August 29th, 2017 brought in funds through raffle  ticket sales and helped to spread much needed awareness throughout the Thomson Okanagan region.
