Chapel

Chapel on Wed., Mar. 22 will be led by Mrs. Randall's third grade class.

Fourth quarter chapel offerings will go to Trinity Hope, a ministry that feeds thousands of hungry children, teachers and cooks each day in Christian schools spread throughout Haiti.

Blue Jean $ Day

Fri., Mar. 31

Students who donate at least $1 on this day will be able to wear blue jeans with a dress-code top. This amount is enough to provide one meal for four children in Haiti.

Students learned about Trinity Hope's ministry from representatives who visited after chapel on Wednesday. They explained that even the smallest amount of change can buy a meal of rice and beans, sometimes the only meal a child might have in a 24 hour period.

This week's Whopper Winner!

Congratulations to fifth grader, Joelle Casson! She was recognized as this week's Whopper winner for consistently displaying kindness, respect and a willingness to help. Thank you, Joelle, for being a light of Christ here at BCA!

Student Events

Thanks to our helpful students! Mr. Josh needed help moving the goal posts so he could mow the soccer field, and these students stepped up to do the heavy lifting!

St. Patrick's Day Fun! Today was all about the green, but more importantly, trapping the sneaky BCA leprechaun! Students created leprechaun traps to see if Luther, the Leprechaun would be able to steal the gold they had hidden inside each trap. Unfortunately, he was successful in getting every last gold coin! Good job, though, BCA students, on your creative construction. You used your STEM skills to the max!

Congratulations to our top contenders for the recent Geography Bee! Jeffrey Stubblefield, 4th grade, was the overall winner (front row, right), followed by Oliver Harr, 4th grade, as runner-up (front row, left).

IOWA Testing Week

IOWA Testing for 1st - 8th grades

Mar. 27 – Mar. 31

About the Iowa Assessments

The Iowa Assessments help determine how students are performing on nationwide standards. It will measure achievement in several important content areas including Reading, Writing Language, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. The tests help teachers identify a student’s strengths and areas that may need additional emphasis. The Iowa Assessments also measure student growth and progress in the content areas assessed from year to year. The assessments enable sound decision making and provides a focus for teachers to evaluate instruction. Each test includes sample questions to help students become familiar with the content and format of the tests. Samples help students understand what to do—how to mark answers and move from question to question. All test questions are multiple choice, and the tests last about 10 to 45 minutes.

How your child can prepare for test taking—and what you can do to help:

A student who is well rested and well fed and has a positive attitude about testing is best prepared for testing. You can help your child do his or her best by considering these tips:

• Make sure that your child is in school and on time on test days.

Please do not schedule dental or doctor appointments for this week.

• Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and eats a healthy breakfast before each day of testing.

• Remind your child that these tests are only one measure of what he or she has learned.

• Emphasize that you have confidence in his or her ability to do the best job possible.

• Remind your child to listen to the directions and read each question carefully during testing.

• Encourage your child to ask the teacher for help if he or she does not understand the directions.

Score reporting and how we use test results

The school will receive test scores in about 6-8 weeks and parents will receive an individual student score report for the Iowa Assessments. These scores will indicate how your child performed on the tests compared with students across the nation in the same grade.

Thank you very much for encouraging and supporting your child during testing.
