HEAD PIN NEWS
Let's Go Bowling!
Greetings from BCAW
by Erik Gialdella, BCAW President

Seeing 2020...and beyond! That's the motto has been adopted by the BCAW this past year and there has been great effort in making strides in changes in our association.

For starters, committees were formed that helped adapt our high school and middle school programming. Some of those changes have been in effect this bowling season and some are still being developed. It was wonderful to see the way coaches, proprietors, and athletes came together to make these programs better this past year!

We also saw BCAW invest in a two day off-site Strategic Planning Retreat. We worked with a facilitator to develop specific action items that BCAW has been and will continue to be working on to move our association forward in 2020 and beyond.

There were some big changes in our industry in 2019, including the USBC age change for youth bowling along with the announcement of new lane certification and tiered center membership classifications. These were addressed at our October annual meeting in Green Bay with the help of Chad Brown from the USBC and Don Agent from Kegel.   It's wonderful to see that as our industry continues to change, we have proprietors in our state that are willing to educate themselves and gain information needed to make the best decisions for their business. It is also a bonus to have a state Executive Director, Yvonne, that stays on top of the major issues facing our members.

Rest assured that our bowling centers are being cared for. Whether it be from the BPAA or the USBC, any changes that may have an impact on our membership is analyzed and appropriate action steps are taken.

As we dive into 2020 and begin a new year, take a moment to reflect on all you have accomplished in the past year before you begin tackling your major to-do list this year. Rejoice in the hard work you put into your business and the efforts you put into making your bowling center a staple in your community. Be proud of what you have done and what you do for the bowlers and guests in your center. Continue making their satisfaction your mission and let them spread the message that our bowling centers are fun to be in and we welcome them with open arms.

Bowling is alive and well! Happy New Year and best wishes for a successful 2020!

Past BPAA & BCAW President Kurt Brose
 Sells Sabre Lanes
Last week Bowling Centers Association of Wisconsin (BCAW) learned longtime BCAW member Kurt Brose has sold Sabre Lanes in Menasha.  The center was built in 1964 with just 16 lanes, but over time lanes were added, bringing it to the 48 lanes when Brose bought the center in 1984.  The new owners are Dan Patterson & Marcus Wise.

A second generation proprietor, Brose is a BCAW Past President (1987-1989).  The Janesville resident was instrumental as President of the Bowling Proprietors' Association of America (BPAA) serving a two year term (1994-1996), as the bowling industry began discussions focused on "industry renewal" and creating synergistic relationships with BPAA and the membership groups (ABC, WIBC and YABA) located in Greendale.  In October 1995 Brose addressed an industry conference held in conjunction with ABC & WIBC in Milwaukee.  There Brose stated, "This is a $4.7 billion industry and it cannot go on without the involvement of all three integers.  We are all committed to turning this industry around."  Brose' leadership was significant in bringing about the initial formation of Bowling, Inc. and a decade later, the United States Bowling Congress (USBC).
