HEAD PIN NEWS
Let's Go Bowling!
Greetings from BCAW
by Steve Cieslewicz
Hello Y'all,

Here we are just days before Bowling Summit 2018 and one day before I leave with three days of work to do yet before I go. Can't possibly do it all.

Here's where I will need to lean on my staff a little. I have a very busy weekend ahead at our center and my wife and I will be gone to Phoenix at the Bowling Summit. Why does it always seem like we plan ahead but it never fails, lots to do right before our events?

I can't stress enough how  important weekly meetings are with your staff for event planning, ordering, scheduling, etc. Even if it's 10 minutes every Monday. Although we are getting better at being proactive in our planning, it is still a work in progress.

Staff of 2, 3, 4, or 15?  Doesn't matter. That's what makes the boat float. Planning, planning, planning. These next four months are very crucial to our centers so we can start building our little nest egg for the summer months.

Take a look at your calendar for the next month and see what's coming up and start the planning process. If for some reason, there are a couple of weekends open, try to do some kind of a promo or two to bring customers into your center. Weather is still crappy outside and we want those tills to be ringing. Remember, make hay when the sun shines.

Have a prosperous new year and we shall see you soon.

Selling or Buying a Bowling Center?
by Yvonne Bennett
BCAW wishes everyone a Happy New Year!  As we begin 2018, we know there are center owners out there considering retirement or leaving the industry . . . looking to sell their centers.   A review of listings on LoopNet.com shows five to 15 centers for sale in Wisconsin at any given time.

We also hear from time-to-time from folks interested in buying a bowling center.  Our interest is of course, to see these business sold and retained with their bowling lanes!

Wisconsin presents a very unique opportunity for potential buyers, as the majority of our members are smaller family owned and managed businesses.

Wisconsin Adult-Youth Scholarship Tournament is a Win-Win for Bowlers and Centers
Twelve strikes is a perfect game and here's 12 reasons why you should run this tournament in your center.

1.
Over $3,300 in scholarships awarded to 16 youth bowlers last year!

2.
144 teams bowled at the state finals last year!

3.
Only the youth have to be certified.

4.
Three different age divisions: U10, U15 and U20.

5.
Adults do not have to be related to the youth to bowl.

6.
Centers can qualify bowlers though league or run in-center tournaments.

7.
Lineage builder for centers.

8.
Increased food and beverage sales.

9.
Easy tournament to sell . . . talk to your bowlers.

10 .
State finals are bowled on a house shot.

1 1.
Centers can run the tournament or league to qualify from November 1, 2017 until March 18, 2018, but don't delay!

12.
FUN for families, coaches, kids, relatives and the center to run.
Now is the time to plan your squads for adult-youth leagues and start to get bowlers qualified to go to the state finals in Sheboygan, WI.  Squad dates are April 14 & 15, April 21 & 22, 2018.  Go to Bowlwi.com for rules and forms.

In Memory Of
Denise Richter, Watertown

On December 14, 2017 Denise Richter died unexpectedly. Denise, along with her sister Diane Mallow, was owner of long-time BCAW member centers Watertown Bowl 18 and Watertown Bowl North.

She was always seen with a smile on her face and a joy to be around.  An active volunteer with many of our BCAW programs, she was recently recognized with the 2017 BCAW Award of Excellence.  Denise is survived by Pete, her husband of 24 years and her daughter Katelyn; as well as her parents Inez & Bob Schmidt.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family.
