Bowling pins falling down from a strike in ten-pin bowling.
HEAD PIN NEWS
Let's Go Bowling!
Greetings from BCAW
by Erik Gialdella, BCAW President

As I write, the ground is getting covered in snow...in October. Crazy, isn't it?

Being able to manage the unpredictable is a great strength of many successful business leaders. Our industry is full of unpredictability. We often plan for events, leagues, food and beverage orders, and staffing in the best possible way and are often left scrambling to come up with solutions to things that do not go as planned. A group may come in with more people than what they reserved their event for, and we have to scramble to get a block of lanes together. Staff may decide to show up late or not at all or league bowlers may not show up the first night of bowling.  Whatever the case may be, we are left to manage an unpredictable situation.

Great leaders will rise up and take these situations on with grace and a smile. Always showing the guests and staff that whatever the obstacle is we must push past it in order to give the best possible experience to the guests. Just know that whatever you're facing, you're not alone.

Many of us in the industry have went through struggles and situations that seem daunting. If you are facing one of these situations and don't know where to turn to, reach out to the BCAW office and let Yvonne know. She will be happy to help you or put you in touch with someone on our board of directors or in membership that can help you out.

November is a special time in the bowling industry. November is referred to BVL Month in America to raise funds to contribute to the Bowlers to Veterans Link. This year, the BVL is asking bowling centers to donate the first shoe rental revenue sold each day to BVL. BVL will use the funds to help our nation's disabled veterans with grants to VA hospitals, art therapy, and bowling kits for troops stationed overseas, among many other things that you can find on their website. To take part in the "Shoes for Freedom" fundraiser this month, visit bowlforveterans.org and click on the "Programs" link. Under that link you will see the program "Shoes for Freedom", click on it and check out the information.

I look forward to seeing our BCAW family come together to support this great cause.

BCAW Member Spotlight
Jerry & Tami Polarek
Village Lanes
Green Bay, WI

The Village Lanes website states, "Village Lanes has been part of the Howard and Suamico communities for over 35 years.  We take pride in our safe, family atmosphere."  It's that community involvement that Jerry and Tami strive for- especially the kids.  As a matter of fact they are in the process of organizing a tournament to benefit local kids in need. As soon as the community heard what Jerry and Tami were doing, the Howard Fire Department, first responders and law enforcement wanted to become involved.  That is what community does and that is why I wanted to find out more about this bowling center.
