It's Raining Kittens and BCC Needs Help

Every Spring it happens. The urgent calls from folks discovering feral and abandoned cats in their neighborhoods, that are growing in numbers.

Requests for our TNR help escalate to the point that BCC and other rescues (Beyond the Paws) struggle to keep up. The female cats we trap to spay are often found to be lactating - meaning we must find the kittens!

Mother cats are excellent at finding hiding places, often within abandoned structures or debris. When we find the kittens they are usually weak, diseased, or injured. We currently have nine kittens so young they require bottle feeding.

BCC and other rescues could use some extra hands - especially those experienced at bottle feeding kittens. BCC provides all the supplies, and the kittens are returned to BCC when they are weaned and able to eat on their own, usually by 5-6 weeks of age.

TNR with Some TLC

On top of the kitten overload, during TNR events we often encounter poor cats with special needs for veterinary care, such as Melvin and Zeus. These two special boys are recovering nicely at the BCC Shelter.

Meet Melvin

Melvin required an eye enucleation, which is the surgical removal of the eyeball, typically performed to treat chronic pain, severe trauma, glaucoma, or cancer, significantly improving a cat’s quality of life. The recovery of a feral cat can sometimes be stressful and difficult on them, but Melvin seems grateful and is even allowing us to pet him.

Meet Zeus

Zeus has been an ongoing story. This poor old boy has been through the ringer. Found at one of our TNR sites, he was too sad to overlook. Obviously a veteran of the rough outdoor life, he was in desperate need of some professional TLC.

Although he definitely needed some veterinary care, we were worried that the grizzled feral veteran from the tough streets might not appreciate any human intervention. What we thought might be a mean, grumpy old fighter is really a loveable senior citizen. Cats never cease to surprise us!

We have been covering Zeus' story at our Facebook page for over a month now. The transformation as he warmed-up to both humans and the other BCC Kottage cats was wonderful to see. In this video we think he is actually enjoying himself!

Who says you can't teach an old cat new tricks... or any tricks for that matter?

Spring Flea Markets

Breakfast Club Cats can help with your Spring Cleaning!

We are seeking donations of gently-used (or new) household items to sell at local flea markets on the weekends.

You can drop off items directly to us, or we can pick up items (we have a pick-up truck if needed).
