It's like we're back to 2019 normal! Though I've never seen so much interest in an Annual General Meeting! Whether you came to hear about our financial review, vote on the ratification of new members, a free lunch or just to be together in person - it was incredible to see so many out!
For those who didn't attend, your Chamber is in a strong financial position and we welcomed 48 new members since the last AGM. This number has grown by the dozen annually since 2017 and we're taking it as a positive sign we're doing the work you value! The Board also appointed Chris Auger, Trent Valley Distributing, to the Board with the recent departure of two other members (due to unforeseen personal circumstances).
AGMs are a great opportunity to see what you might have accomplished in a year...
In 2021, we submitted our accreditation package and were successful. Many thanks to Christina Wallis, Jeanette Cyr-Guerreiro and Lisa Grills for helping me with the finer details.
We took on the distribution of Rapid Antigen Tests in June, which has proven to be of value to over 62,000 employees and 570 businesses and an unexpected revenue stream with funding from the federal government.
Shop Local funding was allocated to support the Choose Belleville campaign AND the creation of an interactive business directory that we hope transforms access to this information as we tweak it over the next few weeks. Finding local made easy at choosebelleville.ca/explore
We're looking forward to our first mingle tomorrow evening - registration is still open - and we certainly hope to see you out at the CAA Arena with the B-Sens community team at the new McFarland Pub... throw in a few of the Hull family and now you really don't want to miss it!
A quick shoutout - Happy 25th Anniversary - for the Centre for Workforce Development (they're having a little party on Thursday, see below to register) and Lisa was out plaquing members (see photos below) - we have about 40 waiting so it's great to get out and visit!
And events are back with Canada Day, July 1 and Belleville Waterfront & Multicultural Festival July 7-10 returning to West Zwick's Park this summer.
With gas prices what they are, discovering our own backyard might remain a priority for the next few months - and hopefully, we'll see you soon!
